Hamster Breeds

If you're a beginner, I'd recommend a Chinese Dwarf hamster. They're very sweet. I have one myself, and practically never bites, unless you either force her to or she's in her cage and you leave your finger in front of her mouth for too long.

If you're a little more advanced, I think you should get a Roborovski (Robo) hamster. They are very active, they're the smallest breed, and they're so chubby. Unfortunetly, they do bite very commonly and are very hard to take out of their cages. They seem harmless at first, then become one of the devils side kicks. I used to have one, but died at 6 months (I have no idea what happened) , but still, I know that if you want to calm one down while it's in your hands or just want to have an excuse that you should keep it in your hands (Or keep it if your family was talking about sending it back to the pet store) you should try holding it up to your chest gently, and petting their back or rubbing their cheek pouches. They love that, or at least Cookiedough (my old Roborovski I was talking about) did. But when you stop, they'll immediately wake up, and if you don't do something fast, could bite you. Another thing about Roborovskis is that they could get very hyper, more hyper than usual. If you're planning to put a Roborovski in a cage with bars, don't. Why? Because that possibly caused my old hamster to be climbing the walls and ceiling (not what she normally did) and she died the next day, while I was watching the first showing of Rio, at New York. I was the first one to see it, besides everyone else in the theater. But still, I shouldn't have put in all the details. So let's put it this way: Chinese Dwarf hamsters are for beginners, and Roborovski hamsters are for the extremely advanced.

They would eat them but that doesn't make olives good for them. Black olives have a high fat and salt content which is why animals like them so much but the last thing you want to feed your hamster is high fat/salt foods. Fresh veggies (there are exceptions on which ones), pelleted hamster food and timothy hay are pretty much all you should be feeding them according to my exotic vet. Never feed dwarf hamsters fruit or carrots as they are high in sugars and dwarf hamsters tend toward diabetes.

Ok they can eat fruits vegetables meat proteins and other food such as baby food and stuff.Do not give them a lot of fruit and vegetables at the same time because it causes diarrhea.Watch out because they are very picky!Heres some fruit:apple ( seedless),banana,blackberries,blueberries,cantaloupe,cherries,cranberries,grapes (seedless),lychee,mango,melon,peaches ( no stone),plums ( no pits),rasberries,rasberry leaves ( helpful for diarrhea),strawberries.Heres some vegetables:asparagus,bean sprouts,bok choy,broccoli,cabbage ( limited amounts),carrots,cauliflower,celery,chard,chestnuts,chickweed,chicory,clover,corn on the cob,cucumbers,dandelion leaves,endive,green beans,kale,parsnips,peas,radiccho,romaine lettuce,spinach,squash,sweet potatoes,sweet bell peppers,swiss chard,turnip,water chestnuts,water cress,zucchini.meat and protein foods:cooked around beef (rinse well in hot water to remove any grease),cooked chicken or turkey (steamed or baked),low fat cottage cheese,fish cod (cooked removing bones and skin),grasshopers ( available at pet stores),mealworms ( available in pet stores),crickets ( available at pet stores),bread ( whole grain,no white bread) soaked in milk (low fat,skim,soy),eggs ( boiled or scrambled),plain tofu,plain low fat yogurt,dog biscuits (no garlic,onion, or onion powder),monkey chow,lab blocks.Other foods:buckwheat,baby food (low sugar and no onion or garlic),cheese ( mild cheeses in moderation),cooked plain brown rice,cooked pasta(wheat or spinach would be better),dry toast ( also helpful for diarrhea),flax seed,low or sugarless cereals,pumpkin seeds ( unsalted),nuts ( no almonds),sesame seeds,soybeans ( roasted,no salt),squash seeds,lentils,oatmeal ( dryor soaked in skim,soy or lowfat milk)nutritional yeast,bran and wheat germ ( refrigerated,goes bad fast),peanuts ( unsalted),unsalted popcorn ( no butter).

Golden hamsters are chunky rodents with compact, low-slung bodies. They have large ears, and a tiny tail. Golden hamsters have cheek pouches which the hamster can store food in, this is very noticable. Golden hamsters come in dozens of varieties of coat colour and pattern, as well as long-haired individuals.

depends on how long its fur is. or if its small or big. furry hampsters are teddy bear hampsters. short haired brown fur are golden hampsters. extremely tiny ones are dwarf. look it up

The average hamster lives to be about three to four years old.

Now, I'm not sure if I can specifically say this for hamsters only, but pretty much, based on experiences, I can tell that the reason why animals in general have fur, is to keep it warm.

Yes, it is very normal! That means that the dwarf hamster is eating lots of veggies, and that's good.

If you bought the hamster from a pet store and it was not young, it might not have been held enough to be comfortable being held, and so it bites. Also, some don't have the personality that suits its being a pet. Try gently holding it for short periods several times a day for awhile and see if it gets used to you. If it is biting a young child, then it may not feel safe being held.

You should get two, because they are happier together as they are very sociable animals, plus then you get more cute hamsters!

Your hamster may be limping if it was climbing the cage and fell and then hurt itself. Or they could have an infection. Or they could be faking it which is VERY unlikely.
