How have hamsters adapted to life in the wild where food is sometimes scarce?
Hamsters have adapted to life in the wild by storing food in their cheek pouches and burrows during times of abundance, helping them survive when food is scarce. They can also slow down their metabolism to conserve energy when resources are limited. Additionally, their nocturnal behavior helps them avoid predators and find food efficiently during the night.
My dwarf hamster's back leg got hurt what should i do?
First, try to gently examine the leg to assess the extent of the injury. If it seems severe or is causing your hamster pain, it's best to consult a veterinarian as soon as possible. In the meantime, make sure your hamster's cage is set up to minimize climbing and jumping to prevent further injury.
Some hamsters may sleep on their backs, sides, or on their stomachs but hamsters do not sleep upside down, bats do! but not hamsters
~KitcatMidget
I have a hamster (a teddy bear hamster) and sometimes she gets in her tube that comes from her petting zone down to the bottom floor where she can play. If my daughter messes with her while she's trying to sleep she will sleep upside down in her tube so she can't bother her lol Hope that's ok for her to do, she's only done it a few times
What country does the hamster originate from?
The domesticated hamster originates from Syria in the Middle East. They were first discovered in the 18th century and have been popular pets ever since.
What foods should you give or prepare to a pregnant Syrian hamster?
Give her a quiet , warm place for nesting annd preparing for birth and feed her fresh fruits and vegies but only a little at a time my hamster loves brocolli, carrots, cuecumber, apples, and grapes but make sure to slice anything up to hammy bite size and always provide fresh water !!! good luck with the babies = )
She could very well be pregnant. My hamster has gotten fat around the lower part of her belly after mating with my male. So I would assume that she is pregnant. It also depends on where you got her, did you get her at a petco, or petsmart? Or did you get her at some ordinary per shop, if you did get her at an ordinary pet shop, they tend to mix sexes, and ususally when you buy a hamster from here, she is pregnant, however the fighting with your other hamster is normal, after a hamster sexually matures, the same sexes fight and the opposit sexes tend to breed, so it is common for to mature female hamsters to fight. and she is proably just sneezing, I hear that a lot.
Yes, hamsters can eat insects such as mealworms and crickets as an occasional treat. Insects are a good source of protein for hamsters, but they should not make up their primary diet. It's important to ensure the insects are gut-loaded and pesticide-free before feeding them to hamsters.
Hamsters mate as long as they are both of different sex and have a close relationship , they cannot mate if they are too young
hamsterluver224's answer
When the time is right, in mating season and when your hamster is mature, or old enough to mate, then they will. Place the Male in the female's cage. If the female injures the male, try again later, she is not ready. Female hamsters will kill males. If the female accepts the male, he goes over to investigate. The breeding will begin when the female makes a position called Lordosis. She stays perfectly still and raises her tail. Even experienced males have trouble if the female's tail gets in the way, etc. Eventually, the male will mount the female, breed, and dismount. This may have to happen several times for it to work. You cannot mate dwarfs with syrians or dwarfs with other dwarf species. (Ex. robo and campbell's russian)
Hope this helps---

Yes, your hamster is likely dying. Two years, though not much time for is, is almost a complete life for a hamster. If she is not in any pain, then just enjoy the time you have left. If she does seem to be in pain, I would recommend visiting the vet. Blessings.
The cost of a hamster can vary depending on the breed, age, and where you purchase it. On average, you can expect to pay between $10 to $20 for a hamster from a pet store or breeder. Additionally, you will need to factor in the cost of a cage, bedding, food, and other supplies for your new pet.
How do you tell the difference between a male or female teddy bear hamster?
Male teddy bear hamsters typically have a larger rear end and scent glands, which can look like dark spots on each side of their body. Female teddy bear hamsters have a smaller rear end and lack these scent glands. Additionally, female hamsters may have nipples that are visible.
What is a hamsters favorite toy?
I have heard that they really like climbing, seesaws, and of course anything that is safe wood for them to chew. seesaws are always more fun to watch if you have at least 2 hamsters kept together but it is still GREAT fun for the hamster (try to get a wood one). They LOVE tunnels. toilet paper or paper towel tubes work great and as there is always a constant supply in most households you can replace them as the hamster has fun crawling through and rolling around and tearing it to bits. You can also buy plastic tunnels that you can put together in different ways and attach to the cage (if you have the right kind). These are great for your hamster but beware they might become a hide away and it is not good to have to pull all the tunnels apart to try and get your buddy out. also if you have a large hamster you definitely do you want them to get stuck in the tunnel! personally i prefer the toilet tubes.
they also love cardboard boxes (WARNING: NEVER LEAVE THEM ALONE IN A CARDBOARD BOX AS THEY CAN CHEW OUT FASTER THEN YOU THINK. ALSO IF THERE IS ANY OTHER PETS AROUND DOG OR CAT OR WHATEVER NEVER LEAVE YOUR HAMSTER ALONE YOU DO NOT WANT A DEAD HAMSTER)! I like to connect the together and make little houses and put ramps and make furniture and stuff out of cardboard but don't be offended if they do not like the couch or bed it took you half an hour to make :P. also if you are taping the tape is probably not good for them to chew on or eat because it might even be toxic or something so just always watch your hamster when he is in these houses. also beware of pea soaking through the bottom of the box and getting on your mom's nice clean carpet! lol hope this helps have fun with your hammy.
How many babies do hamsters have at one time?
hamsters can have around 6 to 12 babies at a time. sometimes they can have more but its not likely that they will. just be careful not to breed them more than 6 times or they could become stressed and die!
Why does my hamster stick up her tail and become stiff?
That can happen when she is in heat. Petting her or touching her lower back while female hamsters are in heat cause them to stiffen up. It's somewhat like being in a state of Sexual Paralysis, and she cannot move.
This is what makes things more convenient for male hamsters to mate without being attacked or killed by an unwilling female. During mating, the male will instinctively claw and paw at the female's back, which will eventually make her hold still for him. It really only works if she is in heat though.
How do you know which hamster is good for you?
It is a good idea when getting any pet that you are not familiar with to get books out from the library. There is a lot of good information that you can find. The only other advice that I have is if you are looking for a pet to have fun with don't get a dwarf hamster even though they are soooo cute. I got one and they are not nearly as much fun to play with and hold as a bigger hamster. If you have the money Black hamsters are specially breed to be friendly and social. Plus my friend had one and it is 3 years old and just starting to fade (if that is the right word choice). Otherwise you could just go to the pet store and ask to hold some different kinds. But again I strongly incourage you to find out as much as you can and buy the proper supplies before buying your hamster. This will insure that you both have the best time possible together and your hamster lives a long and healthy life.
Hamsters defend them selves by trying to scare you like scratching but when you grab a hamster they nibble on your hand but just for a while to taste your hand then it stops and you have total control over it and hamsters will bite you when they really need to.
The answer below should be that they will all be black: the last portion is right (3 homo. black to 1 het. black) but all the mice will have black coats.
3 black to 1 white, ......B equals black, w equals white, 3homozygous black to 1 heterozygous black.
What does it mean when a hamster puts its ears up?
When a hamster puts its ears up, it is usually a sign that they are alert or inquisitive about their surroundings. This behavior allows them to better listen and determine if there are any potential threats or interesting things nearby.
Typically, it is not common to lose multiple teeth in a single day under normal circumstances. In cases of traumatic accidents, it is possible to lose multiple teeth, but this is rare and usually requires immediate dental intervention. Regular tooth loss from natural causes or decay generally occurs over a longer period of time.
How do you know if your hamster is happy scared or sad?
A happy hamster sits in the corner of his cage nibbling away at food, or runs around his play wheel. A scared hamster will not be eating and makes furtive movemnts of the body while looking around ina panicked way. A sad hamster - sorry can't answer this one.
A sad hamster sits and uh uh uh nvm
How do you get you two hamsters in the same cage to like each other.?
Introduce them slowly in a neutral territory to allow them to get familiar with each other's scent. Ensure the cage is large enough to accommodate both hamsters and provide multiple hideouts and resources to avoid competition. Supervise their interactions and be prepared to separate them if any signs of aggression occur.
