What hamster will not eat another one?

Hamsters don't really eat other hamsters. Their not cannibals. However, when the babies are first born and one is really ill; the mother may and most likely will eat the baby. Yes, it sounds gross but I think I remember reading somewhere that a lot of animals do that. So if you have a hamster who just had 5 babies and one of them is gone - that's probably why.

Can a hamster survive without a leg?

No, only in very rare cases. The shock of loosing a limb would be enough to kill them.

There are many hamsters who have three legs because it was amputated. Reasons on why it was done varies. Most of the time it is because of a severe leg break. They tend to get along just fine on three legs. There was one hamster who had only two legs. Hamsters are hardy little creatures and recover fairly well. They learn how to re- balance themselves and how to groom in a new fashion or with their stubs. The age of the hamster when getting an amputation may effect how well it can recover from the surgery; as well as any prior complications.

Your hamster has lost weight?

If your hamster gets lost you should:

  • make sure that all exits to outside are closed
  • Larger pets like cats and dogs and kept somewhere where they can't harm the hamster, like in a cage or a room where you know the hamster isn't there.
  • Any rodent traps are removed
  • and chemicals the hamster may be able to get to are removed

Hamsters will be able to creep into any gap or hole that its head can fit through, so check any gaps/holes. They can creep behind appliances e.g. Washing machines/cookers/fridges.

If its your only hamster leave the cage door open as they will normally come back the next day. Its also possible its gone somewhere where it will be trapped and won't be able to come back like, downstairs and it can't climb back up, So you should have a second box/cage there with food/water/bedding so it won't starve.

And also be careful where you step as it may pop out from under somthing and into your way.

If this doesn't work you may be able to buy a trap for the hamster with its favorite treat in. You can also make a trap by using a ramp/box or anything similar. put its favorite food in the box which it can't climb out of again and leave the ramp leaning against the box so it can climb up. Maybe even leave a trail of treats along the ramp for it to follow.

And that's all the advice I can give (sorry its like an essay)

Why there are many ant surrouding at your hamster cages?

A "fishy" odor may be a sign of wet tail. Does the fur surrounding your hamster's tail have a wet, brown liquid on it? If so veterinary care is recommended as wet tail can be deadly if left untreated.

A strong odor coming from the cage is a good indication that it needs to be cleaned. Cages should we cleaned at least once per week- consisting of removing all bedding material and thoroughly rinsing the cage and all contents with a water and soap solution. Antibacterial dish soap, vinegar or specialty cage cleaner can be used- but never bleach, as this can harm your pet and removes his scent, confusing him on which spots he cleans, eats and pees.
