Alaska doesn't border a state because geographically it lies next to Canada and touches the water on all sides in fact it used to be owner by Russia but, the United States bought it from them for 2 cents a square mile.

It's difficult to be sure, since no humans were anywhere nearby when it happened, but it was probably about 150,000 years ago.

We believe that there is a stationary "hot spot" in the Earth's mantle, and that the Pacific tectonic plate has been sliding to the northwest. So the western islands like Niihau and Kauai formed long ago, and become dormant and then extinct as the plate moved; then the "hot spot" formed the island of Oahu, and then Maui and Molokai as the plate continued to move. These volcanoes are long dormant. The big island of Hawaii is currently over (or just moving off of) the hot spot, because that volcano is still active.

There's another submerged volcano southeast of Hawaii which is still erupting, and growing another island; it'll probably be another 10,000 years before that island erupts from the sea.

Madagascar is the 4th largest island in the world. The largest island in the world is Greenland, followed by New Guinea.

The Pacific ocean surrounds all the islands that make up the state of Hawaii.

This really depends on the traffic conditions of any particular day. The freeway ends near Ko Olina (just past the city of Kapolei) and Farrington Highway begins (a long stretch of rode that leads into O'ahu's leeward coast (Makaha Valley remains near the very end).

Traffic through the leeward coast is often unbearable as road work is constantly going on - there are only a few lanes in and a few lanes out.

On a good day, it may take 1 hour - 1.5 hours to get from Makaha Valley to Honolulu.

Contiguous means States touch. Hawaii has an ocean between them and the mainland of the US. Alaska has Canada separating it from the mainland of the US. So, Hawaii and Alaska are non-contiguous States, but are still part of the nation.

Are you kidding me? Hands down Hawaii... and all in all a better place to live too imo. I live on the Big Island in Hilo, and it's surreal to know that I can go snorkeling year round in Hilo bay on a black sand beach, or travel to the Kona side and go to some of the best beaches in the world (Hapuna, Mauna Kea etc.) If I don't feel like doing that, I can drive 15 minutes and see Waipeo Falls, one of the most breathtaking waterfalls one can find imo. Your options are more limited in Florida.



Florida is incredibly humid... and HOT. Here is is rarely more than 84 degrees with maybe 40-60% max humidity, and the trade winds constantly blow through the houses. That's why no one on the island has air conditioning. You don't need it. Try that in Florida and you'll catch a heat stroke.


Florida is also particularly flat... the beaches are just so so. The only people who rave about Florida beaches are the ones who haven't seen many tropical beaches and are impressed with light blue water. And some places in northern Florida are sub tropical. In Hawaii you can swim in better water imo... it's so clear you can see your shadow on the ocean floor, with a view of a mountain or a volcano in the background.
