Do hawks regurgitate their food for their young?
# Hawks use their feet to hold the dead prey and use their beaks to tear off pieces of the prey. They swallow and store the pieces in their crops. This allows them to eat very fast and get up off the ground into the air where they are safe. # While hawks eat, they mantle over their food. This means that they hide the food with their outstretched wings and tail. # The next day after eating, hawks cough up a pellet that contains only the fur or feathers of the animals that they ate. Hawks usually do not swallow the larger bones and the smaller bones are digested by their strong stomach juices. Answer found on http://www.frontiernet.net/~friendswithfeathers/index.html

Very few hawks hunt in groups. Most likely, a "pack" of hawks together are migrating, and all taking advantage of the same air currents. It is also possible for a family - parents and the newly fledged young - to be seen together for a few days. One species of hawk that does hunt in groups is the Harris's hawk, but they rarely soar. See http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Harris%27s_Hawk I think it's also likely if you saw a group of "hawks" soaring together that they were actually vultures.
The term hawk can be used in several ways. However, the subfamily of the Accipitridae often known as the "true" hawks, including all members of Accipiter and the closely related genera Melierax, Urotriorchis, Erythrotriorchis and Megatriorchis are carnivorous birds.
