Pen them up until late morning. When temp. Gets warm and thermals are strong. Try a plastic Horned Owl. (The ones used to scare birds away). Horned owls and (chicken hawks) don't get along too good. Then pen them back up before evening comes along when the hawks and owls become more serious about eating.

You can't really build a nest the birds way, but you could make a giant nest for a person, which would probably be easier to make. I once made something like that. But if you were to build a nest, you'd have to know which type. Different birds build different looking nests. Let's say you're some generic type bird or whatnot and are nesting in a tree. You would have to attach your nest to the earth somehow. You'd either put mud on it or something like that or attach the sticks to it. Next come the actual building of the nest. You'd have to intertwine sticks and hay and grass and things like that to get a bowl shape or whatever shape you desire. If you were a bird, you'd put in some of your breast feathers and such to make the nest warm and cozy for your chicks. Building a nest is harder than it sounds and I advise you leave it to the professionals.

Besides that non-sensicle awnser you could look at the basic food chain purposes. Mice feed other creatures which effectivly keep eco-systems balanced... There is no straight awnser to "What is the purpose of mice" but as they say.... That's the way the cookie crumbles

Mice love to run on a wheel. They also like to run in or chew toilet paper or paper towel rolls. They love to dig and make tunnels in their bedding. Mice also love cherrios!!! Mice should also be given fresh veggies every once in a while and some fruits.

The hawks often migrate to warmer southern climates in the winter. They will come back to the northern climates after winter.
