To connect a digital TV converter box, follow these steps:

1. Disconnect antenna from TV

2. Connect antenna to antenna connection on Converter box.

3. Connect an antenna cable from the converter box to the TV's antenna connection.

4. Turn the TV to channel 3, turn on the converter box, and follow the setup menu from the converter box to search for channels.

5. Keep the TV on channel 3, and change channels using the remote control for the converter box.

It's unlikely that HDMI based video will work with a DisplayPort input. Although DisplayPort can be connected to an HDMI input with a passive adaptor, DisplayPort does not support broadcast color space such as YUV. HDMI can accept and display the RGB format used by DisplayPort but DisplayPort cannot handle YUV which is typically output from a Bluray player.

DisplayPort is an emerging standard and during the time it is being implemented, there will be numerous practical adaptations to the capabilities of DisplayPort. For that reason, this answer may not be valid in the future. Indeed, it is likely that there are already products that can handle YUV so the only sure way to find out if it works is to try it.

At the time of writing, there is no commercially available HDMI input to a computer due to copy protection issues. HDMI is designed to support copy protection and it is very unlikely that there will be licenses issued to allow HDMI inputs to computers.

You will need:

A stereo amplifier
Speakers
An optical audio cable


1) Connect the HDMI cable from whatever you are trying to hook up (Virgin Box, Blu-ray player, PS3, Xbox 360) into the back of your television.
2) Connect the optical audio cable from the back of your television to the slot on your stereo amplifier.
3) Your amplifier should be connected to the speakers. If it isn't, do so (it should be covered in the manual)
4) You may need to configure Dolby Digital 5.1 Surround Sound for it to work.
5) Ensure the amplifier is turned on.


Alternatively, you could connect your optical audio cable directly from what you are trying to rig up to the stereo. Either way should work.

Depending on your TV and stereo you may have digital audio inputs on your stereo and outputs (of course) on your TV: optical or coaxial. A fiber optic cable between the two being best.

Contrast ratios on televisions screens get better and better with each model that comes out. Unfortunately, there are many ways of measuring contrast ratios and claims of ratios like 1,000,000:1 are using some very creative measurement techniques indeed.

Contrast ratios are affected by many factors including ambient light levels, image content, production techniques during editing and more. While a high contrast ratio suggests that you will see whiter whites and even blacker blacks, the numbers really don't mean a great deal compared to your own eyes. Before buying, make sure you look at televisions and decide for yourself just how white and how black the image gets. More importantly, look for detail in the very light and very dark parts of the image. Rich blacks with some detail in the darker areas is good and the same for very light detail. Your own viewing will give you a far better comparison between two screens than the numbers ever can.

Virtually all TV wall mounts come with a large assortment of screws to fit all TVs with standard VESA mounts. A 32-inch TV will use a M6 (6mm metric) or M8 (8mm metric) screw. The mount will have these screws in various lengths. When you get the mount, use the longest screw possible that you can tighten by hand to hold the bracket to the back of the TV. Do not over-tighten, as you may damage circuit boards or even the LCD panel itself.

Analog component signals are completely different to digital HDMI. There is no simple adaptor cable because the analog signals require processing to convert to digital. I don't know about the truthfulness or accuracy of the above information , but a PS3 has an HDMI input and does have optional cables that have a component connection at the HDTV side and a HDMI connection on the other side. They ran about $30 and are designed to connect a PS3 to a HDTV with component cables and may work for your connection

Okay, this may sound wery 'what the hell?'ish. In practice, the TV puts out the amplified signal into its speakers, and if it has an audio-out jack/2xRCA, that output is signal-level, which is to say, NOT amplified.

So, long story short - you need an amplifier to go with the speakers. Otherwise the signal would be so small that you wouldn't hear anything! But this simplifies things considerably: sets of amplifier+speakers are available in almost every major electronics/RTV store, and they're pretty much guaranteed to work with signal-level input (that's what design standards are for). So go ahead and buy a set of speakers with a matching amplifier, and it should work like a charm.

An optical audio cable is used to transmit digital audio (AC-3) signal from the source to the receiver, such as from a DVD player to a digital audio amplifier/receiver. You can transmit 5.1 dolby digital or DTS surround sound with an optical audio cable, same as digital coaxial audio cable.
