Could easily be the sender unit in coolant elbow - the one with a single wire. Take the connector off, and earth the plug inside to the cylinder head (I used a jeweller's screwdriver) and turn the ignition on. It the gauge jumps to the top of the Hot section of the dial, the sensor needs replacing. If not (and you're sure you earthed it), you need to check the wire in the instrument panel for continuity. If found, the gauge itself is faulty, if not there's a break in the wire somewhere...

No it probably means you have a leak some where. Try pressurizing your system to find the leak.
1996 Camry Coolant Overflow ----
I recently changed the timing belt/thermostat/water pump of my car and strange things start to happen! My car is a 1996 Toyota Camry, 4 cylinder.
The reservoir of coolant overflows everytime I drive about 50 miles. (the coolant in the tank is way overfull and coolant is bubbling inside). The reservoir is about half full before I drive (so over filling the reservoir is not the problem.
Everytime when the coolant overflow, after the engine is cooled down, I open the radiator cap and find out there is no coolant in the radiator anymore!!!. So everytime, i need to refill the radiator!!!!
Here are other facts to help diagnose my car:
1) radiator cap is recently replaced so the overflow is not caused by a malfunction of the radiator cap
2) Everytime I refill the radiator after the engine is cooled, I did the proper steps (start the engine and let the air bubbles out). When I start the engine to let the air bubbles out, I also noticed that the coolant inside the radiator warms up really quick once I start the engine. It only take 1 min for the coolant mix in the radiator to almost boil!!!!
3) There are no leaking hoses of the cooling system.
4) The engine oil and the transmission fluid seems fine. (no mix of oil and coolant)
5) The fans work properly.
6) Temperature gauge mystery:
The temp gauge takes way longer to show the normal temp (temp gauge in the middle). It took about 5-10 mins for the temp to be normal before I have this cooling problem. Now it takes way longer. And another thing I noticed is that as soon as I get on the high way, the temp drops to the bottom of the gauge and as soon as I get off the high way, the temp goes to the middle of the gauge. The temp fluctuate a little before but not as much as now.
Can any one tell me what is wrong with my car? It is really annoying. Tried so many things to fix it but still do not know what is wrong.

A stuck open thermostat will cause a car to run cooler than needed. It will cause oil to sludge, a loss of gas mileage due to running rich and numerous other problems.
What is the difference between a cold air intake and a regular air filter?
Regular air filters are in a housing box towards the front of the car and are simply an insert laid into the housing which protects the engine from dust and dirt from the air so that it can breathe better. Since the whole intake is housed and enclosed, it draws hot air from the engine bay to feed the engine it's oxygen.
Installing a cold air intake constitutes removing the whole housing assembly and unbolting it from the engine bay. It is replaced with a pipe connected directly to the throttle body that leads down by the driver's side wheel well. On the end is the air filter. This draws cooler air in from outside the engine bay. Cold air is favorable because it is more dense, which will help the combustion of the engine, in turn producing more power. The engine can breathe easier as well, in turn working less hard, which (in theory) gives you slightly better MPG.
