What were the ghettos into which the Jews of Sighet were placed?

In April 1944, Hungarian authorities ordered Hungarian Jews living outside Budapest (roughly 500,000) to concentrate in certain cities, usually regional government seats. Hungarian gendarmes were sent into the rural regions to round up the Jews and dispatch them to the cities. The urban areas in which the Jews were forced to concentrate were enclosed and referred to as ghettos. Sometimes the ghettos encompassed the area of a former Jewish neighborhood. In other cases the ghetto was merely a single building, such as a factory.

What did the Jews for Hitler to start the Holocaust?

Im assuming this question is 'what did the Jews do for Hitler to start the Holocaust?'

There are many Historians out there that say that Hitler's main reason for the Holocaust is because his mother was treated by a Jewish doctor (Dr Bloch)and that she died in his care.

This is feeble because there is evidence to suggest that Hitler was eternally grateful for his service and gave Hitler and his sister (Paula) a break with the repayments for their mothers treatment.

Later, Hitler let Dr Bloch leave the country.

In Venice, he befriended a Jewish man called Josef Neumann. Josef helped Hitler sell off his paintings to shop owners, which where mainly Jewish owned shops.

The only adverse result is that Josef and Hitler applied for the same Art college and Josef got through and Hitler didnt.

These events hardly amount to a reasoning of Hitlers actions.

Jewish people have been persecuted for hundreds of years, Hitler was a fan of Karl Lueger and Karl was a fan of Edouerd Drumont.

These people all had strong ani-Semitic beliefs.

Was Hitler brainwashed by their beliefs?

Did Hitler carry out the extermination of Jews because of their influence?

These are corageous statements om my behalf, and I'm open to criticism.

_____________

It is almost certainly a mistake to look for some devastating incident in Hitler's early years. It appears that his intense antisemitism didn't arise till World War 1 and the earliest solid evidence dates from 1916, when Hitler was aged 27. (For a detailed discussion of this, see Volume 1 of Ian Kershaw's highly acclaimed biography of Hitler - Hubris, Penguin Books 1998). Take a look at the related question. Please click on link.

Where did Hitler's prejudice against the Jews originate?

Hitler was a failed artist who's art was rejected by seven people. Out of the seven people four were Jewish. He began to blame the Jews for his failure and his ill liked job. This may be where he's hatred originated from.

Is it offensive to say or write arbeit macht frei?

"Arbeit macht frei" is a German phrase meaning "work sets you free" or "work liberates." The slogan is known for having been placed over the entrances to a number of Nazi concentration camps during the Holocaust, including most infamously Auschwitz I, where it was made by prisoners with metalwork skills and erected by order of the Nazis in June 1940.

I woud say yes.

____

It was placed over the entrances to all major Nazi concentration camps except Buchenwald, which had it own slogan, 'Jedem das Seine' (which means 'To each according to his merits/just deserts').

The general proposition that a person with a job has more freedom than, for example, a person living on unemployment benefit is not objectionalbe. However, I'd suggest using that particular expression with the utmost care, if at all, and preferably not the German version!

The phrase is a classic case of irony, where the actual outcome is the exact opposite of the stated meaning. In English, this phrase has become solely referential to its use in the Nazi death camps, and any use of it carries the connotation of a similar ghastly irony. It cannot be used without carrying the Nazi connection, though it does not have to explicitly be used in association with genocide.

It is not generally offensive to use the phrase properly (that is, it is not a solely and inherently offensive saying), though one should be aware of the Nazi overtones that the phrase has.

For example, a completely valid use of the phrase would be thus:

[said by one employee to another of the same company, after that company has just laid off half of the work force, and cut everyone else's salary drastically]

"The CEO might as well have hung arbeit macht frei over the door when we came in today."

An improper use would be:

[said by the leader of a sports team during practice, to encourage athletes to work harder]

"We have to work harder in order to beat Team X tomorrow. Remember: arbeit macht frei ! "

It would also be hideously offensive to suggest it be used for a slogan to any government agency, except when explicitly using to label that agency as a parallel to a Nazi Gestapo/SS-like organization.

Who tried Nazi leaders for their treatment of Jews during the war?

In 1945-46 the surviving Nazi leaders were tried at Nuremberg by Britain, France, the US and the USSR (Soviet Union) for a range of crimes. The most important charges related to deliberately launching a war of aggression. Many were also charged with crimes against humanity, which included the Holocaust. (Contrary to a widespread misunderstanding, there was no special charge relating to the Jews).

In addition, some people - mainly of much lower rank) were tried in other places, such as Lüneburg (Bergen-Belsen Trial - by the British), Dachau (Dachau Trial - by the US)) and Krakow (Auschwitz Trials - by the Poles).

Later, from about 1949 on some trials were conducted by the Germans.

When did death begin?

The Bible records: And the LORD God formed man of the dust of the ground,

and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life;

and man became a living soul.

(Genesis 2:7) According to Jewish law life ends (and death begins) when a person stops breathing. The typical test is to put a soft feather near the nostrils and observe if it flutters. Brain death has no validity in Judaism; a person is alive until they stop breathing.

Why did most Germans wanted the Jews to live in Ghettos?

It wasn't the Germans. Very confusing, yes. The Germans and the Nazis were in different groups, though they followed the same leader. It was the Nazis who wanted this so they could keep track of and control as many Jewish people as they could.

_____________________

Most Nazis were Germans. Ordinary Germans were happy to go along with the Nazi's wishes as they benefited in ways such as getting the Jews' jobs or their houses or businesses.
