Why is there sand in your washing machine?

Sand in the washing machine can come from a variety of sources, such as sandy clothes, beach towels, or even pockets of clothing. To prevent this, shake out sandy items before washing and consider using a laundry bag for items that may contain sand. Regularly cleaning the washing machine filter or drain pump can help remove any sand that gets through.

Can washing powder damage my machine?

Powder can't ruin your washer i dont think. But when you use powder, it doesnt always dissolve, and sometimes you will have white stuff on the clothes were the powder didnt dissolve? I dont know if that helped.

Cost to install a range stove outlet?

Why do washing machines have two different compartments for detergent?

Washing machines have separate compartments for detergent to ensure that the detergent is added at the right time during the wash cycle. One compartment is for pre-wash or pre-treat detergent, while the other is for main wash detergent. This helps optimize the cleaning performance of the detergent.

Does higher watts in an electric iron make it hotter?

Not necessarily. More watts does mean more heat, but that does not absolutely equate to a higher temperature. A large professional iron (like a trouser press) will use more watts than a hand iron in order to reach the same temperature, just because it's bigger.

My water heater used to heat plenty of how water but now it only heats enough water for one 10 minute shower. What causes this?

It sounds like one of the elements inside the water tank is not working. There are two electric elements in and average size water tank. One at the bottom and one at the top. These two elements cycle between each other but only one is on at any given time when calling for hot water. Water that comes into a HWT looks like it comes into the top but there is a pipe inside the tank that delivers the water to the bottom. When the tank thermostat senses the cold water, power is applied to the elements, be it the top one or the bottom one. Because you have enough hot water for a shower I would guess that the top element is working but the bottom is not. The incoming cold water is not getting heated. When the top element is hot enough it should switch to the bottom element to start heating the water in the bottom of the tank. Sounds like this is not happening.

What happens if you leave clothes in the dryer for too long?

Leaving clothes in the dryer for too long can cause wrinkles, shrinkage, or damage to the fabric. It can also over-dry the clothes, leading to increased wear and tear over time.

Is there a pilot light on a kenmore gas dryer?

Most Kenmore gas dryers do not have a traditional pilot light. Instead, they use an igniter to light the gas burner when needed. If your Kenmore gas dryer is not heating, it could be due to a faulty igniter or other heating element.

Why will the washer not spin clothes dry?

There could be several reasons why a washer may not spin clothes dry. Some potential causes include a broken drive belt, a malfunctioning motor, a clogged drain pump, or issues with the door latch or lid switch. It's best to consult a professional technician to diagnose and address the specific problem with the washer.

Are ozone air filtration systems bad for your health?

They can be. They are bad if you are in the space they are adding ozone to. They should have timers, and be turned off a few hours before you (or your pets) return home. They are especially bad if you have asthma. But they are good for destroying odors.

Does a washing machine need a magnet to operate?

The answer is both yes and no.

It actually depends on the kind of washing machine in question.

The problem is the motion.

A washing machine need some kind of an engine or motor in order to move the cloths back and forth. This can of course be done manually.

If we rule out manual washing machines, and also only count in electrical ones then these can be made in two different ways.

The motor causing the tumbling or the motion in the washing machine can be made with both permanent magnets like NeoDym, or with purely electrical pulses creating strong electromagnetic fields.

Most motors in washing machines made today are made without magnets. It is cheaper to make purely electrical motors where the electricity provides the magnetic fields needed. By electronically rotate the magnetic field around the axis, this will force the motion of the motor. It would use less electricity to make the motors with NeoDym magnets but it would also cost more to produce.

As a conclusion: We can not make an electrical washing machine that operate without magnetic fields, but magnetic fields does not have to be made by magnets.

What metal is in a washing machine?

A washing machine is basically made of an alloy that does not corrode easily.

Stainless steel is found in some. This is Iron witch also contain Nickel and Chromium.

Some manufacturers use high quality stainless steel in their washing machines. This metal has got a higher content of Chromium and make it even more resistant to corrosion. In many cases, this metal is acid proof too.

The box however is mostly made out of the cheapest metal possible, and this does corrode easily when the paint or galvanization comes off.

Does electricity flow even if nothing is plugged into the outlet?

Yes. If you hook up your phone charger, it is using a little bit over 50% power without a phone attached. No. The voltage potential of 120 volts is at the receptacle outlet slots but to make the current flow, a resistive load is needed. In the case above the phone charger is the load. Un-plug the load and no current flow.

What wire goes where on a L5-30 3 pronged plug?

This is a 30 amp 125 volt device. The black wire goes on the smallest pin, should be a brass coloured screw, the white on the next in size, should be a silver coloured screw and the ground wire on the pin with the inward hook on it, green coloured screw.

Can i use a 20 watt bulb in a 60 watt socket?

Technically speaking a bulb and a lamp are the same thing. You can use a 60 watt bulb in a fixture calling for a 40 watt bulb but I wouldn't. The lighting fixture may get to hot, melt and start a fire.

Why do manufacturers recommend you don not use propane in a natural gas burner?

They are two different fuels with different properties, ie, natural gas = 1000 BTU/hour per cubic foot, Propane = 2500 BTU/hour per cubic foot (vapor). Most burners can be converted by simply changing to the recommended burner nozzles. Additionally the pressure regulator and /or fuel valve may need to be changed.

Can a mercury vapor light that is 240 volt work on 208 volts?

The lamp may not fire. Check the ballast to see if it is a multi tap. Most of the newer ballasts have variable taps for different voltages starting with 120, 208, 240, 277 and 347. This is for the convenience of the customer so as not to have many different ballasts for spares, just one that will do all. A ballast is specific to the lamp wattage.

When did the dryer come out?

In the early 1800s, prototype clothes dryers were first starting to be invented in England and France. One common kind of early clothes dryer was the ventilator, made by a Frenchman named Pochon. It was a barrel-shaped metal drum with holes in it that was turned by hand over a fire. One early American patent for a clothes dryer was granted to George T. Sampson on June 7, 1892. Sampson's dryer used the heat from a stove to dry clothes and was another type of ventilator machine.

What is the importance of electric fan?

Electric fans are important for providing cooling and ventilation in indoor spaces, helping to circulate air and maintain a comfortable environment. They can also help to improve air circulation and reduce humidity, which can prevent mold and mildew growth. Additionally, electric fans are energy-efficient and can be a cost-effective alternative to air conditioning.

Why does a clothes dryer heat but not dry?

If a clothes dryer is heating but not drying, it could be due to a blockage in the dryer vent, a clogged lint trap, or a faulty heating element. Check for obstructions in the vent system and lint trap, and ensure the heating element is working properly. If these components are clear and functional, it could indicate a problem with the dryer's airflow or moisture sensors that may require professional repair.

How electricity related to physics?

Electricity is a branch of physics that deals with the flow of electrical charge through conductors. It is based on electromagnetism theory, which explains the behavior of electric charges and their interactions with magnetic fields. The study of electricity in physics covers topics such as electric circuits, electromagnetic induction, and the generation and transmission of electrical power.

Why does Central air have Noisy fan shut down?

some central air systems use metal / tin ductwork (some use plastic)

if the metal ducts are installed improperly the ducts pucker outward when the duct is pressurized by the fan and collapse when the fan goes off. This movement of the metal ductwork causes a banging or knocking noise on every startup and shutdown.

It can sometimes be caused by a unintended blockage of the air flow.

My home air conditioning unit was making a knocking sound more like a whoop whoop type of knock when the main blower motor was winding down. Turned out to be the fan wires that were bumping against the fan cowling - tapped them up. GGB.

Why do magnets stick to stainless steel knives but not stainless steel fridges?

Knives are usually made from hardened stainless steel typically a martensitic type, appliances would normally use a austenitic type which is softer and better for forming. Martensitic and ferritic stainless are normally magnetic due to their different structures

What is the meaning of Fuzzy in a washing machine?

Fuzzy logic is a term that is used in some of the modern washing machines. These machines have sensors that can detect the amount of clothes, how dirty they are and what temperature they should be washed at and adjusts the controls accordingly.
