Is there mercury in a Sony trinitron tv?

Mercury has been used throughout the electronics industry and older televisions commonly had mercury within them.

Legislation in Europe, NAFTA and other regions has restricted the use of mercury and other chemicals in domestic and commercial equipment. Therefore, new televisions contain no more than trace amounts of mercury.

The Trinitron series of CRT televisions, not manufactured for over 10 years now, did have mercury in many of its components.

What are the dangers of using a overhead projector?

The projector can reach a pretty high temperature if left on for a while. So I think the main danger of an overhead projector is simply the heat. ;)

How do you connect the Pioneer HTP 100-SW sub woofer speaker to the amplifer for use in the home system?

The HTP 100-SW is a passive subwoofer (no built-in amplifier of its own), so it goes between the amplifier/receiver and the front left & right speakers, using two sets of speaker cable (four cables in all). First connect the front left & right speaker outputs of the amplifier to the inputs on the rear panel of the subwoofer, according to the embossed labels in the middle of the panel (use a flashlight if necessary), which tell you which are inputs/outputs and which are left/right. Then connect the speakers to the subwoofer's outputs, again according to the embossed labels. The subwoofer will filter out and use the bass from the signal, passing the rest of the signal on to the speakers. If this is a simple stereo system with only two speakers, then you are now finished.

For the process to work correctly on systems that have more than two speakers, the bass in all of the channels must first be redirected to the front left & right channels. On most receivers/preamplifiers, the front left & right speakers must be set to "Large" while the others must be set to "Small." Some models may have different settings, so consult their manuals.

Was Beta format before VHS?

Betamax video was out at the same time as VHS video but came out 1 year before vhs did, In the 1970s. The beta format was smaller than vhs and had a better performance operation. It gradually lost out to vhs as that format became more popular.

As a matter of interest, there were other formats of recording equipment available at the time. Phillips video 2000, was an even bigger tape version than vhs. Philips also manufactured a laser disc player/recorder similar to dvd but much bigger. Sony developed the U-matic tape as long ago as 1969.

What contrast ratio can the Human eye perceive?

The human eye, at any particular instant, can perceive contrast ratio over a range of 400:1 to 10,000:1 according to numerous references. However, the human eye is a dynamic organ and can adjust, both chemically and via iris movement, over some 30 minutes in steady light conditions to perceive higher contrast ratios of up to between 1,000,000:1and 10,000,000:1. One can think of the eye as an adaptive detector. Age is a factor influencing what contrast ratio might be perceived by the particular individual. The images displayed can affect the perceived contrast ratio with the human eye being able to detect higher contrast ratios for static images as opposed to moving images. Ambient Light Conditions Even small amounts of ambient light (one LUX - a candle flame) significantly reduces the ability of display devices to render higher contrast ratios (in the 1,000's). A black area can only be as black as whatever incident light is reflecting from it. You cannot "project" the color black. Doubly detrimental is the rapid drop off of the eyes contrast sensitivity with higher ambient light levels. Spatial Frequency The eye is sensitive to the spatial frequency which is a factor related to the distance between the contrasting image elements in relation to each degree of field of vision at the eye. Consider that the frequency is the count of the number of alternating vertical stripes of black and white across an arc of one degree with the eye as its origin. Increasing the number of vertical stripes across the arc (making them thinner) will, beyond a certain point, reduce the eyes ability to perceive contrast ratio - even though the actual contrast between the white and black stripes remains the same. For a practical demonstration of this concept try this dynamic demonstration of the eyes variation in contrast sensitivity with spatial resolution by the USD Internet Psychology Laboratory. Differences in contrast ratios in the multi-thousands should only be a consideration in choosing between display devices when you are going to place them in a strictly controlled, very low ambient light environment - something like a windowless home theatre room with dark finishes on all walls and surfaces. For higher ambient light viewing environments brightness should be a much higher rated selection criteria than contrast ratio. There is no substitute for judging between the image quality of displays than viewing them side by side with your own eyes in a viewing environment with an ambient light level similar to where they would be located.

What TVs are manufactured in the US?

Technically, none. Zenith was the last one to leave and now they're owned by LG electronics.

Having been in the television service industry, I honestly can't say that I know of any manufacturers left in the United States. If there are, they're small entities and not very well known as of yet.

Why? It's by far cheaper to export the manufacturing jobs to other countries where labor is much less expensive. Is it right? Not really.

What is the difference between the Bose gemstone speakears and the articulated array speakers?

The Gemstone speakers are part of a system that does surround emulation, not true surround sound. There are no rear speakers in these systems, just front speakers with a processor that uses digital processing to fool the ear in believing the sound comes from the side or behind. This only works well with certain source material at certain frequencies. The articulated array speakers feature a moveable driver in order to direct the sound towards the listener, as used in the front speakers, or utilize the technology that Bose developed years ago called Direct Reflecting, where some of the sound comes from a driver, and some of the sound is bounced off of a wall and is indirectly broadcast to the audience. This technology works very well for surround speakers, as it creates a greater sense of envelopment.

Why are some toilets mounted to the wall?

Is there a way to connect speakers to a tv that has no audio outputs?

You could use an external cable or satellite receiver and connect speakers to that.

How many amps does a surround sound system use?

The current drawn by a surround sound system depends on many factors, in particular, the sound level at which it is running as well as the type of amplifier and processor used in the system.

Although it is impossible to give an accurate figure, expect the system to draw around one to two amps while it is running with more being drawn at peak volume as well as at switch on.

The manufacturer's information label will also state the maximum current the unit will draw.

Can HDMI carry analog audio?

HDMI cables can carry audio but it is in digital format only. Any HDMI connector will be capable of carrying the audio content and any input should be capable of receiving and processing the audio in digital format. There should normally be no need to use analog audio with HDMI but there is one notable exception. HDMI shares the same video interface format as DVI, the digital display output used on computers. However, DVI does not support audio so a cable that links a DVI output to an HDMI input will not carry audio. For this reason, many new televisions have at least one HDMI input that also has an analog audio input associated with the HDMI port. This is specifically provided to cater for DVI + analog audio as delivered by many computers.

What is the difference between HD and HDMI?

HD stands for High Definition. HDMI stands for High Definition Multimedia Iterface. HDMI is the input for 1080p HD programming. HD is the actual resolution 1920x1080p is the standard for HD currently. It stands for 1920 horizontal lines and 1080 vertical lines (This creaes a little over 2 megapixlels). These lines refresh to create the image and the more lines the beter quality that you see. the p stands for progressive scan where the entire image is refreshed at once. 1080i is interlaced so half the lines refresh and the other half next. The time between the two is very miniscule. 720p is also HD by the way and it is shown with component cables (this also shows 1080i). The HDMI cable and port transmits 1080p image. Most HD progamming on cable and satellite is 720p although 1080p is used on some PPV chanels. Blu-ray is completely 1080p. DVD's don't use HD although they can be upconverted in a blu-ray player, but it won't be quite as good as a blu-ray disc.

What cables are needed to connect a DVD player to a television?

You can use one of 3 types of cables:

1) Composite video - yellow/white/black. This is the basic cable that almost all DVD players ship with. Basic standard definition video and analog audio

2) Component video + Analog audio - red/green/blue + white/black - This is for progressive scanning DVD players and TV's 10 years old or newer. Better video but analog audio

3) HDMI - one cable. This is for upconverting DVD players. 480p to 1080p video (not high definition) plus digital audio.

You may have a DVD player and TV that have a S-Video player (multi-pin single cable), but that connection standard has almost completely disappeared.
