Are hybrid cars really safe for the environment?

AnswerHybrid cars still burn significant amounts of petrol, so it would be a lie to say they are truly "safe" for the environment.

The most significant pollution from automobiles are at the construction and destruction end. More pollution is created during these two events then during the operating life.

As a result hubrid vehicles do use less fuel, but add considerable volumes of pollution t build. To destroy a car prematurely that worked to exchange it for a hybrid probably would be a negative affect on the environment. The basic concept of hyrid though i that they do offer a slight savings in the amount of fossil fuel consumed and therefore have a positive affect.

What is the difference between a hybrid car and a smart car?

Smart cars are uglier, but better for our environment.

Are hybrid sport car, fuel and environmental friendly?

Are hybrid cars less expensive than gas-powered cars?

A hybrid vehicle uses electricity and gas to power two engines, opposed to a single-engined, gas powered, "regular" car. A hybrid not only costs more up front, the weight and lack of horsepower compared to gasoline cars will probably make it less efficient and slow. Alternatives should be considered, such as EVs (electric vehicles), fuel-efficient gasoline cars, etc.

Are there any diesel electric hybrid cars that are environmentally friendly?

No, according to http://www.autoevolution.com/news/how-diesel-electric-hybrids-work-and-why-they-aren-t-on-sale-yet-20472.html the reason why there are currently no diesel electric hybrids is because they are too expensive to make.

How much does a hybrid car cost?

They vary significantly. I bought my Toyota Prius in 2004 for $22,000. I have not regretted it. There are several companies that have "Hybrids" and they vary in price from about $20,000-$60,000.

What does hybrid mean a car?

there are different versions of hybrids but it essentially means that the car uses electricity derived from special batteries, as well as a traditional gasoline engine to drive the car. The benefit of this is seen especially in city driving at slower speeds where the electric drive can be taken advantage of, which causes the car to get better gas milage.

Some Problems With Hybrid Cars?

Many people drive hybrid cars, but they do have some disadvantages. The high price is one of the biggest hybrid car problems. In addition, the complicated system has to be repaired by experienced mechanics, which can be very costly. Generally, hybrids are smaller than most cars and made with lightweight materials. The lighter weight helps increase speed, but it can make hybrid cars more susceptible to being damaged in an accident.

When were hybrid cars invented?

In 1905, Mr. H Piper filed a patent for a gasoline engine-electric motor powertrain.

How much power does a hybrid car have, and what is it compared to a regular car?

Some hybrid cars have just as much power as regular cars. They use gasoline for power when it is needed, or the electric component can produce enough power.

Hybrid Car Problems?

Not only are hybrid cars good for the environment but they are also affordable. One of the problems with this is that over the long run if prices are kept this low the manufacturers for these hybrid vehicles will lose money. This means that in the future, prices for hybrids will increase as their demand increases. Also once a battery runs out, it can cost the customer around $10,000 to get a new working battery, adding to the total costs.

Why are hybrid cars not good on road trips?

I have had no problem with my 2010 Honda Insight on trips. It gets its best gas mileage at 55 mph (54 mpg). When climbing mountains I do have to turn off the ECO mode though, which reduces mpg.

How much money do you save on gas with hybrid cars?

Not as much as you'd hope. But it depends what you compare to, and it depends on your driving style, and it depends on how far you're driving.

Some diesel cars give much better consumption than my hybrid Toyota Prius, although it's among the most economical petrol cars if driven well. For very short trips, there is no particular saving, because it warms up its engine to start with anyway. I think the biggest improvement I get is by being able to constantly see my current fuel consumption, because it encourages me to take my foot off the gas a bit.

Where can I find a list of hybrid cars on the market?

The wikipedia page http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_hybrid_vehicles has a comprehensive list of all the hybrid cars on the market so you can get info there.

Electric and hybrid vehicles not only cost less to buy than normal cars, but fuel costs are less than 25% than that of normal cars.

How many miles can a Toyota Hybrid travel with only using the batteries?

Running on battery power alone, you can only expect to drive between 2 and 7 miles; this is due to several factors. The first is that hybrid cars are not designed to run solely on battery power, but in conjunction with a gasoline engine that constantly provides a char

What makes solar cars better than hybrids?

What is the renewable energy of a hybrid car? Solar auto can only go very short distances. If you drive less then ten miles a month or so you can get away with almost any car.

The issue is one of available energy and technology. There is only so much energy in one square meter of sunlight. This is only available on occasion and for short periods of time.

Even if we could triple the output of a solar panel and cover a car with panels, we could only move a VERY short distance per day with a car that was legal in the Untied States. Probably under one mile a day even in the sunniest areas.

The other issue would be that no one would buy a auto that was tens of thousands of dollars to drive a few miles a month.

Advantages of hybrid?

when i am looking at buying a car i look at the pros and cons of it not just advantages. the pro is gas milage. the con's are you have to replace the batteries every 4 years witch is about the same cost as driving a car that gets 4 mpg daily for 20 years in gas. (its pricey to get the batteries replaced) believe it or not a semi pollutes less than a prius if they both drove a mile. so so far they are bad at a cost stand point and a pollution standpoint. sure they save some mpg but u have to pay double what gas would have been on a gas guzzler in order to change the batteries.
