It depends...yes they get better gas mileage, however they generally cost more to purchase in the first place and repairs will be more (mostly because things that most people can do to a car themselves cannot be done on a hybrid because of the danger of killing yourself from the high voltage of the batteries. Hybrids tend to feel underpowered (in my opinion) and usually struggle up hills. I would reccoment buying a diesel, yes diesel is more expensive than petrol, but the mileage is comparible, and in alot of cases, superior to a hybrid.
