What would be the effects before death if someone swallowed a bottle of Advil?

There are many overdose experiences reported in the medical literature. Human response range from abdominal pain, nausea, vomiting, drowsiness, dizziness, headache, tinnitus, nystagmus, gastrointestinal bleeding, seizures, metabolic acidosis, hyperkalaemia, hypotension, bradycardia, tachycardia, atrial fibrillation, coma, hepatic dysfunction, acute renal failure, cyanosis, respiratory depression, and finally, cardiac arrest has reported. But with those cases we really don't know 100% what they suffered through.

What category of pain do NSAIDs and acetaminophen most effectively treat?

NSAIDs and acetaminophen are effective for most forms of acute (sharp, but of a short duration) pain.

Can you have acetaminophen with it?

Acetaminophen is the drug in the brand "Tylenol". It is often combined with Codeine as "Tylenol #3", etc. Codeine is an ineffective pain-reliever according to the latest medical literature.

Acetaminophen is processed by the liver, so anything else you might take that is metabolized/processed/broken-down in the liver risks liver damage. That is why there are prescribed limits to the number and frequency of pain-pill doses you should take.

Nobody wants a Liver Transplant!

Alcohol - even that found in cough syrup - has been shown to increase the extent of liver stress/damage exponentially - when taken at or near the same time as acetaminophen.

So, avoid alcohol + acetaminophen and stick to the prescribed dosage of your pain pills. 8 or 10 a day is too many!

New approaches to pain-relief like "targeted-delivery" with topical pain-relief medications put the pain medicine directly on the painful area for fast-relief. Cochrane Reviews says 35 studies showed "Good" pain-relief is easy with topical pain-relief medication - even for back pain.

Can you die from eating too much Advil?

You can die from eating too much anything, and I mean that very literally.

That said, yes, it's possible to die from an Advil overdose. It's not common, though; toxic effects are unlikely under a dosage of 100mg/kg (for an average man, this is almost 40 200mg tablets).

Is Ibuprofen ASA?

ibuprofen is tylonel

Actually, Ibuprofen and Tylenol are 2 very different chemicals.

ASA stands for Acetylsalicylic Acid, or what is more commonly known as Aspirin. While the short answer to the question is 'No', it's not as simple as that. Anyone who has an allergy to ASA or to Ibuprofen needs to consult a doctor before taking either. They function in a similar manner.

Both do the following:

Inhibit the body's production of prostaglandins, hormone-like substances that are produced by the body in small quantities and are involved in the regulation of processes like pain, fever and inflammation

Ibuprofen is iso-butyl-propanoic-phenolic acid.

Tylenol is a compound called Acetaminophen or Paracetamol.

Can you drink beer and take 150 mg of topamax and 10 mg of flexeril?

Flexeril & topamax are absolutely contraindicated. Adding aalcohol into the mix is beyond stupid. If the two drugs were prescribed to you be the same provider, Shane on them. Always check with your pharmacist, as they are often more knowledgeable about interactions & side effects than medical providers.

What can you take besides ibuprofen?

I also have this problem. I have only been able to take Tylenol (and I have a few T3's hidden away when I REALLY have a problem). I think this is just one of those things we have to deal with when having kidney problems-- I really miss the hot tub!

My 18 month old toddler ate an advil pill?

One Advil pill for an 18-month old shouldn't cause serious problems. You can always call poison control -- in the US the number is 1-800-222-1222. They're very helpful and they don't judge or ridicule. Great blog post on this in the related links.

Aspirin a prodrug?

No it's not a prodrug it works by acetylating the serine in the 530 position of COX and is then converted to salicylic acid which is inactive. It acts by preventing Arachadonic acid (AA) from entering the active site and forming PGG2, This is also true for COX2 even though it does allow AA to pass it doesn't form PGG2 instead forming 15-R-HETE.

But it depends on what you mean by prolonged. Just use your google-fu.

Is aspirin OK to relieve tendonitis pain?

I'm no doctor but as construction worker for 35 years I've had more than my share of pain. I'm a great believer in asprin as a wonder drug but lately I've added another wonder drug and that is Aleve. Asprin is an antiinflamatory and a pain releiver both of which are associated with tendonitis. It has always worked for me. Aleve is even better but it has a drawback you must take it for a few days before it kicks in because it builds up in the system
