Indira Gandhi was the fourth prime minister of India. She was the daughter of India's first prime minister and independence leader Jawaharlal Nehru. She was almost always seen wearing the traditional Indian dress of 'Sari'.
Indira Gandhi passed her Matric from Pune University and was then went to Shantiniketan, West Bengal. She received her college education at Somerville College, Oxford
Indian freedom fighters such as Mohandas (also known as Mahatma) Gandhi were instrumental in freeing India from British rule. Specifically, Gandhi's nonviolent nature and tenets about peace were appreciated around the world.
Rahul Gandhi is the grandson of Indira Gandhi.
Kamala Nehru. Indira Gandhi was the only daughter of former Indian Prime Minister Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru and his wife Kamala Nehru.
15 years :3 consecutive terms (1966-77) and a 4th term (1980-84)
Not at all. There was no blood relation.
There is no direct relationship. Indira Gandhi ( the daughter of muslin ) not daughter of Jawaharlal was married to Feroze ( Khan ) Gandhi, no relation to Mohandas (Mahatma) Gandhi.
Indira took the name of Gandhi when she married Feroze ( Khan ) Gandhi, who was not related to Mahatma Gandhi either (although Wikipedia claims Mahatma Gandhi adopted Feroze ( Khan ) only court afffidavite changed the name so he could marry Indira, but another source says he was persuaded--not adopted--by Mahatma to change his surname).
However, Indira was the daughter of another prominent political leader of 20th century India, Jawaharlal Nehru (1889-1964), the first prime minister of India and a protege of Mohandas Gandhi
Mahatma Gandhi or Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi and Indira Gandhi or not directly related. This is a politically coerced relation. Indira Gandhi married Feroze Khan, a Muslim. Politically this was a disaster because the Congress Party through which Mrs Gandhi ran for Prime Minister would loose all Non Moslem Votes. So under political pressure Mr Khan was forced to change his name to Gandhi. This would help FOOL the local population that the then Prime Ministerial Candidate Mrs Gandhi was related to Mahatma Gandhi. In fact there is ABSOLUTELY no relation with the Gandhi Surname and Mrs Indira Gandhi. Indira's maiden name was Nehru and her married surname was Khan. So if she choose to keep her maiden name , she'd have sounded like Indira Nehru . The word Gandhi came out of nowhere . So the summarize , the reasons are :
-- Political Coercion .
-- Misrepresentation to create a false association with Mohandas Gandhi and garner votes using his surname
Even today , the political campaign billboards feature Sonia Gandhi ( aka Maino ) , Rahul Gandhi ( aka Raul Maino ) and Mohandas Gandhi ( aka Mahatma Gandhi ) together .
No they were not related but Mohandas Gandhi Adopted Fer oz Khan . Who turned to Fer oz Gandhi only because Indira was a Hindu who could not marry a Muslim and Jawarlal Nehru din not want to be disgraced in front of the government because he was a true Hindu therefore Mohandas adopted him and got the two (Fer oz And Indira) married. so Jawarlal `s image wasn't ruined in front of the government.
so in the end they were related.
it is worth more than £100,000,000 however it depends on the condition
Indira Gandhi is one of the important woman leaders of the world. She had the courage to protest against all the illegal voices of the society.
Indira Point is the southern tip of the Indian Ocean island of Great Nicobar, in the Nicobar Islands south of Burma. It represents the southernmost point of Indian national territory, some 1100 miles ESE of India's mainland and only about 100 miles NE of Sumatra in Indonesia.
It was formerly known as Pygmalion Point and was renamed in honor of former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi (1917-1984).
Indira Gandhi; the single mention of the name is enough to bring her commanding presence on the audience. She was a person of charismatic character but with a much more determined self. Her life was filled with self learnings which made her independent in thought and work. She could stand by herself against all odds and her leadership is incomparable.
Indira's childhood prepared grounds for her critical, political thinking and withdrawn self. Her father, Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru, and her grandfather, Motilal Nehru, were actively involved in the independence movements in India. She grew up with her mother who was distanced from the Nehru family and who kept to herself and thus Indira was influenced by her mother. She developed a willingness to not get hurt just like her mother. This proved to be her weapon in standing tall during her political standalone. She saw continued events of arrests of her parents by the British and this gave her a lonely childhood.
Since she was the only child of her parents, she was a political confidant of her father.
After the independence she worked with her father Jawahar Lal Nehru; the first Prime Minister of India and learnt a lot from him. And after the death of the 2nd Prime Minister Shri Lal Bahadur Shastri, she became the Prime Minister of India, the first and only female Prime Minister uptil date of the independent India. She served as the PM for 3 consecutive terms and during her 4th tenure in October 1984, she was assassinated.
As a PM, she made a lot of changes to the Indian scenario. She nationalized banks, devalued the rupee to increase trade, started a national nuclear weapons program following China's threats, gave momentum to the green revolution economically which tripled wheat production and reduced food dependency on USA, supported and grew the white revolution, proposed the Shimla agreement and made it a success, promoted peace talks with Pakistan, stopped other countries from interfering in Indo-Pak matters, led to the creation of Bangladesh, gave a new dimension to the friendly Indian-Soviet relationship and made commendable efforts in the progress of science, space exploration and irrigation.
Though she contributed a lot to development, some of her acts became extremely controversial and are so to this day. The corruption that existed in her party then, is talked of as being the reason for its widespread occurance today. Her act of sending military personal into the Golden Temple which led to her assasination is an unending debate.
Surpassing these issues, she was a great woman and was the symbol of woman leadership for India and the third world countries. She had a charming personality and her leadership of 15 years in a male dominated soceity describes her more than words do. That is why she was so special to India and she is admired and loved by her huge supporters even today.
