The city is geographically located at the Bosphorus border of Asia and Europe, and eventually become crossing pass for traders of silk road who stopped and awed at the city's size and beauty. So the city become a cosmopolitan city with many traders, offering many oriental and unique good( the city is also famous for silk production) which attract many traders from the Mediterranean and mainland Europe (Venetians, Genoa, Egypt and other European) and served as a meeting point for traders of many origins. Even after the lost of many key provinces such as Egypt, and north Africa, the empire manage to survive relying on the city's importance. But of course this ended when the crusaders breached the mighty walls and brutally ravaged and sacked the city, destroying many churches, richest and monuments. Although its strategic location manage to helped the empire survived for a little longer. After the fall of the city to the Turks, its trading importance decline as Europeans searched for other alternative to cross Asia, which lead to foundation of new world.
