Kennedy was president from January 20, 1961- November 22, 1963.

Johnson ramped up US troop presence in Vietnam significantly. At the same time the French bugged out of Vietnam despite their asking for the US help. The NASA Mercury space program continued and ended. A man that Democrats would later put in the Presidential Line of Succession, Ku Klux Klansman Robert Byrd(D), conducted the longest Senate filibuster ever against the 1964 Civil Rights Act. The act passed anyhow. Johnson pushed through the Great Society welfare expansion and launched his war on poverty with no exit strategy in Inez, Kentucky. 45 years and trillion$ of dollars spent later the percentage of people in the US living below the poverty level is roughly the same. Johnson(D) chose not to run for a 2nd term. He was replaced by Richard Nixon(R).

President Barack Obama attended the funeral and delivered the eulogy. Also attending were President George W. Bush, President William J. Clinton and President James E. Carter.

President George H.W. Bush sent his condolences but decided not to attend because he felt the attendance of his son President George W. Bush and his wife Laura well represented the Bush family.

President Kennedy is responsible for the start of the Peace Corps in 1961. The program aimed to increase understanding between Americans and the people and nations of the world. The goal of the Peace Corp was for volunteers to dedicate themselves to the peace and upward mobility of underdeveloped countries.

His father was a jack of all trade and made millions. . He was a banker, movie producer, liquor distributor during and after prohibition, , maritime commissioner, and ambassador to England.

His mother was educated in Europe and the daughter of John Fitzgerald, who was the mayor of Boston. She never had a paying job but raised her children and engaged in charity work.

Kennedy enjoyed a wide variety of music, possibly because he was very well educated in history, including music. When Helga Sandburg (Carl Sandburg's daughter) asked about Kennedy's favorite song he actually asked his wife "Jackie" if she had a suggestion! Together they decided to tell Mrs. Sandburg that the old Brittish piece "Greensleeves" was his favorite.

Thirty-fifth U.S. President John Fitzgerald Kennedy died on Friday, November 22, 1963. He was assassinated, in Dallas, Texas, at 12:30 p.m. Central Standard Time. He was pronounced dead a half hour later, at Parkland Memorial Hospital, at 1:00 p.m. At about 1:50 p.m., the main suspect in the assassination, Lee Harvey Oswald, was arrested. Funeral services were held on Monday, November 25, 1963. The presidential casket was lowered into the grave, at Arlington National Cemetery, at 3:34 p.m. Eastern Standard Time. It was the day that the deceased President's son, John Fitzgerald Kennedy, Jr., turned three years old. The late President's daughter, Caroline Bouvier Kennedy, turned six two days later, on Wednesday, November 27.

He is still alive and appears to be in good health at age 59.
