And having inherited a terrible economic crisis from President Bush, he wanted to turn things around and put the American economy on the right path; many economists believe he prevented a recession, and also rescued the auto industry.
But many of the things he wanted to do have not happened. The economic recovery has been very slow, for a number of reasons. His opponents would say he has not reduced the deficit and that his policies have not improved the economy. He wanted to create a less partisan Washington, one where people from both parties would work together-- that too has not happened and in fact, some would say things have gotten worse. His opponents are still convinced he is a socialist or that he does not have America's best interests at heart, and not much has changed regarding their opinion of him and his policies. Mr. Obama has also wanted to work on some foreign policy issues, such as the ongoing crisis in the middle east, but so far, the Israeli-Palestinian divide is as wide as ever. It remains to be seen whether he will be able to achieve more of his goals in his second term, as it is certain that he wants to be remembered as a president who got things done for the American people.
