When can you play tennis after total knee replacement?
I had a total hip replacement in January, 2007. I was an avid tennis player until I could not move at all on the court. That was in the fall of 2005. I attempted some alternative treatments for over a year. Although the pain decreased in my day to day life, I could not do anything athletic. After the surgery, I played golf, walking the course in March, two months after the surgery. I started hitting tennis balls in June but could not move very well. I slowly improved my strength and flexibility over the next year. It probably took 1.5 to 2 years where I felt totally comfortable and confident. My "bad hip" became my good hip. It's been four years now and I am still playing singles tennis. My range and speed are decreased but much of that is due to age anyway (I am 63). But I still have fun and am competitive at the 3.5 level. Recently, some groin pain. That has come and gone. I am still playing but mindful. I do exercises and stretches to keep myself going. I do not do much jogging at all. I find my hip bothers my much more if I ran than play tennis. I do elliptical training which brings no pain at all.
Is a knee replacement a disability?
You can go to the tag agency and fill out some forms, in return they can give you a TEMERARY disablity parking tag. A knee replacement would be somthing that would "disable" your range of movement, but because it is not permanent, you would not be accepted by society or by societies standards as a disabled person. However, you can manipulate society into accepting you as a a person with a disability if you take on the "disability" role. There is no way to explain what this role invovles, because it is different for each person, but you can use it if society accepts it.

Do your homework on the art you want before getting it, it would be a real bummer if you got something permanant which gave others the wrong idea about you. I know a person who got a Chinese character tattooed on her arm, the tattoo artist changed it so it meant "slut" in Chinese. Ouch, real costly to fix!
I am 55 years old now and have numerous tattoos on both hands and arms. Been there since I was 18 with no problems at all except in Middle East countries where I get some strange looks.
-in addition to this, i have heard of artists digging too deep in areas with bones close to the skin resulting in chipped bones. These stories go back plenty of years, so make sure you go to a skilled tattooist. Do your research before trusting your body with someone.
Can you claim ill health retirement for total knee replacement?
Yes, is the short answer. 1/3rd of people with RA have to give up work within 1 year of onset of disease, many more within 10 years of onset but things may be improving now due to biologic drugs. You would need to check the definition of ill health within your pension scheme to see if you qualify. Ill health retirement is limited to those with access to such a benefit under their occupational pension scheme. You may need to discuss with your consultant whether you would meet the criteria for your pension scheme - it is the consultant who decides not your GP. The pension scheme may want their own medical expert to examine you but cannot refuse if you meet the criteria. You may also be entitled to Disability living allowance and incapacity benefit. Please note that the rules for some schemes particularly local government are now not as generous as they used to be and to get the maximum entitlement you need to be incapable of any type of work, not just incapable of doing your own job.
