A healthy, purebred Labrador retriever that is an adult should weigh between 65 and 75 pounds. Labs are prone to getting fat/obese because they have a slow metabolism, so even older Labs need plenty of exercise and not as much food as other breeds.

Labrador Retrievers are a kind of cousin of the Newfoundland. Both are hunting or sporting dogs, and both originated in the same area, but since the name Newfoundland was already taken, the Lab was named for the sea that they worked in. The Labrador Sea. The dogs worked as fishing dogs, retrieving fish that fell out of nets or got away. The labs had to be bred to be able to withstand the cold waters, so they have a double coat and what breeders call a "soft mouth." In order to develop the necessary social skills needed, puppies should leave their mothers NO EARLIER than 8 weeks of age. After they have left their mothers, they will still need extensive socialization during their first year to insure that they become temperamentally sound adults.

My last dog was a Labrador, as was the one before him and perosnally, I wouldn't have any other breed. They're absolutely lovely (and yeah, that IS a biased opinion). Your dog is not a cow

Just like some people have no allergies and some have allergies but to different plants than other people, dogs are the same way. If your dog scratches a lot during certain seasons but you don't see any sign of fleas, they might have allergies.

More important is to make sure that dogs don't eat plants that can make them very sick or kill them. In the related links below there is a list, with photos, of such plants.

They are just white because of the genes. Like humans have different hair colour, their coat is different. The white coat is created when both mother and father are carriers of the gene that makes up the white coat.

The puppies would be labs (like the mom and dad) ,but the color or colors would depend entirely on which color genes they received from each parent.

The black color is dominant; the possibilities for a black puppy are EEBB, EEBb,EeBB, or EeBb. The possibilities for a yellow puppy are eeBB, eeBb, or eebb. Both EEbb and Eebb would produce a chocolate lab. So, to be yellow, the puppy must receive the 'e' gene from both parents, and to be chocolate, the puppy must have received the 'b' gene from both parents--any other combination will produce a black puppy.

It should be noted that the combination of eebb will always produce a dog that is yellow, but that has chocolate pigmentation around its eye rims, and on its nose. This is not currently an 'accepted' color for registration with the AKC.

There is also times where is a greyish color, but its rare.

We had two black labs stay with us for several months. The female had 9 puppies, 5 were yellow labs, 4 were black, both parents were black labs.

Lots of exercise is good for every dog, but the Labrador Retriever part will require a fair amount. If the "doodle" is from a full-size hunting poodle, then that part will call for a lot of exercise, too.

If they whine and bark a lot, or chew up household items, then you can be sure that the dog needs more exercise and play.

Labrador Retrievers are dogs used to retrieve hunting game after it has been hunted. They would probably enjoy fetching toys like tennis balls, frisbees, anything that you can throw. A squeaker is a plus. Every dog is diffrent though, and may like the exact opposite of the standard.

since know one else answered i give my 12 week old labrador two 1 cup scoops puppy chow. he will still try to eat everyone elses food but he is a growing boy. his dad black is a black lab he gained five pounds because he stepped in a hole and hurt himself but lost it and weighs 87 so he is a good size 2 year old. he gets about 2 1/2 cups but oly when i feed em he is mostly muscle. has put on his winter blubber though. but the 30 pound pup i like to keep em fed all though he will still want more just keep it limited he gets fed twice a day 2 cups each serving.

Well it depends if your dog has any teeth missing but if it dosent it will have 42 teeth

They are just resting. This is not really a breed trait, many dogs do this, but you will see it often on dogs, like labs, who have longer legs in proportion to their bodies (also called "up on leg"). For example, the Borzoi (Russian Wolfhound) dogs are more often seen with their front paws crossed than out straight. It is probably the most comfortable position for them when on the floor.

You have to train it.

Pick the dog you want to be dominant. Tie or pen the non-dominant chosen dog and feed both dogs with one penned and one free. Takes a few times, but the free dog establishes dominance.

They start heat for a week, then they bleed for about a week,then they want to breed for a week so all together around 3 weeks.

what you do is find a big bowl in ur kitchen, and put some puppy food in it. put some water in a cup in the microwave and heat 'til almost boiling. pour the water in the bowl w/ the puppy food and let soak until puffy and soft. stir it a little and after a few minutes, serve to the puppy(s)

If one of the labs and/or golden retrievers had a parent who was a black dog... That might explain it! Sometimes (even with dogs) the "family gene" skips a generation!

If you breed a Yellow Labrador and a Chocolate Labrador they will produce solid chocolate puppies and solid Yellow puppies and Black puppies with the exception of a few white markings.

No matter what color labs you breed they will always be pure unless you have a mixed breed or a completely different breed as the mother or father. Then it's up to the traits of that other breed.
