Why take Lexapro and not Zoloft?
Lexapro has fewer side effects than Zoloft, such as dry mouth/ eyes and sexual dysfunction.
Addrell and Lexapro are they the same drug?
Of course not. Lexapro is an SSRI used to treat anxiety and depression, while Adderall is used to treat ADHD and is a stimulant. Also it can take a week or so to have actual effects of Lexapro, while you'll be able to feel the effects of Adderall minutes later.
i take two antidepressants. i ran out of citalopram and didn't get it refilled for a month. when i started taking it again, i experienced a very unusual type of itching. the interesting thing is that this itching had previously been occurring for about a year, but just recently had stopped. i have run a couple of anecdotal tests, and i am convinced the citalopram is responsible. the itching comes from inside my feet and fingers. it comes in pulses that subside. episodes last from 15 to 60 minutes. the itching always starts when i am experiencing an upset mood - fear, anxiety, annoyance, anger. scratching does not help beyond the immediate moment. it can contribute to lack of sleep, and daytime concentration on the outside world when an episode occrus. in all my life, this is the strangest reaction to a drug. Even though many years ago, i did a little LSD. now to tell my psychiatrist (we had discussed the coincidence of the itching and mood).
Can muscle cramps and backache be a side-effect of taking Lexapro?
== == I suggest that you consult your doctor on this. I experienced similar side-effects and had to have my appendix removed.
Can you take lexapro 20mg twice a day?
That's a large daily dose. Contact your health care provider for advice specific to your situation.
my fiance took abilify and during a camping trip she walked off to get firewood. we could not find her for almost 15 minutes, we took her to the hospital due to the fact that she had no memory of who she was or who we were. it is speculated that the abilify caused the seizure because she had very recently been perscribed that medication. siezures are also a side affect of abilfy
First ask yourself this question: Have you been using something different like a face soap or makeup. Maybe you were bit by something you were allergic to! If it doesn't go away contact a doctor.
Are there any successes on weaning off antidepressants without side effects?
I stoped taking lexapro after 2 years of 10 mil dose it was about 2 weeks of feeling like I had a hang over before my head cleared up the first 5 days were the worst
Has anyone had trouble with their gallbladder because you took Lexapro?
I did and ended it with having my gallbladder removed and weaning off Lexapro in one week. My first problems with my gallbladder arose a couple of months into taking Lexapro for the first time years before. I stopped and then I had a pregnancy and about 5 year with no lexapro. When I had a traumatic family sitiuation I tried Lexapro again and again a couple of months into it I started to have gallbladder attacks. I took one lexapro after my surgery and it made me so sick I have vowed to never touch it again. It sucked because it really did great for my anxiety.
You stopped taking lexapro 2 weeks ago and am starting to get side effects now is this normal?
I have everyday, bad migraine headaches. Facial pain, neck pain too. I wonder if it is the Lexapro 30 mg I was taking for 5 years, then switching to Cymbalta 20 mg for 2 weeks. Is this normal, to still have headaches?
Your 10 year old grandson has been put on fluoxetine 20 mg daily how safe is this?
Fluoxetine also known as Prozac, is an SSRI used to treat depression. The FDA approved Fluoxetine in December 1987 and it is widely used.
The important thing to remember is to ask your medical professional this question, and if you feel he or she is not providing an appropriate answer, ask another.
I would also be concerned as too what is going on in a 10 year old child's life that has him depressed? There may be an underlying cause that needs attention.

There are a lot of different meds out there on the market. What works for some may not for others. As you probably have seen, patients sometimes need to try different combos and that really is the only way to find out what will work the best. Sometimes 3 or 4 meds are needed and sometimes 1 or 2 work. It is very important that patients report any side effects, good or bad. It may take a little time but be patient and you will find something that will work. Hang in there! The meds you said he is presently taking are normal for his ADHD and Bi-Polar. Just to let you know, I am 38 and have been diagnosed with both of the same disorders. Find a good MD who is very experienced in those illnesses and make sure there is a good communication between him, yourself and son. Last, make sure the doctor listens to everything you or you son tell him. He will be able to give your son the best treatment if the lines of communication are open. You should have him explain in detail what each drug your son is taking does to the body and how it helps. Some drugs are only given for side effects of another. But most important of all is to let your son participate 100 % because he will most likely follow instructions and confide in you if he has any fears or questions. Sorry I kind of blabbed a little too much. I just have had a lifetime of handeling my conditions along with family members who also suffer various conditions. I would be happy to talk to you about my experience but for right now it is important that you confide in your MD and get your questions answered. If you still feel unsure, go get another opinion or change physicians. Good luck.

As margret said it's really very individual when it comes to these sort of diagnosis. I have both adhd and bipolar disorder as well and take several drugs. It's all about finding the right combo that works for your son. I wouldn't suggest tampering with his current combo if it's working for him. Although clonipin lithium and abilify are three medications which treat mania. And both lexapro and lithium will treat the depressive phase. Again it depends on the severity but some of these meds are redundent. Klonopin is also typically used for anxiety not bipolar disorder although it will work to control mania. Klonopin is something i take myself but i would be reluctant to give it to a child unless everything else failed because it can be quite addictive. If your son suffers from anxiety their is a bipolar med called Valporate that works on the same chemical in the brain as klonopin but it is not addictive. Also straterra affects the neurotransmitter norepinehrine and lexapro affects serotonin. Their are a class of drugs called SNRI (serotonin norepinehrine reuptake inhibitors) that affect both. Some examples of which are Effexor XR and Cymblata. If he took one of them he wouldn't need to take 2 pills and could just take one. Like i said before it all depends on his individual response and possible adverse reactions to the meds. But always get a second or even third opinion.

What the symptom if you quite taking laxapro after 7 years?
Symptoms can vary but for most people, Lexapro is fairly easy to stop taking. Talk to your doctor about tapering off the medication and you should be totally done within a month, maybe as short as 2 weeks. Many people experience only minor side-effects from discontinuing use of Lexapro but talk to your doctor or a pharmacist and make sure to taper off as stopping immediately can cause some side effects.
Couldn't help but laugh when I read this question, I'm sorry. Smoking marijuana daily is not good for you anyway. I'm by far no doctor or have no medical experience of any kind so anything I say is only my personal opinion. Therefore, I thought everyone new pot "fried" your brain. I have to ask you, why do both? When I first started lexapro my doctor told me it was going to have the same effect on me as if smoking pot. I have stopped taking Lexapro now should I start smoking marijuana to see if it helps? All I'm saying is you should do or take one or the other. Otherwise, you will never know if you are truly happy and that people are laughing with you not at you.
Are there side effects to starting Lexapro at 40 mg a day?
This is too large a dose to start on. The manufacturer suggests starting at 5 to 10 mg, and not increase above 10mg for at least one week. 20 is the usual maximum dose. However, your doctor may advise 40 milligrams in some circumstances.
Can I take wellbutrin to offset sexual side effects of lexapro?
You can try it, although the full 300mg dose of wellbutrin is likely what's needed it if wil work for you. The 150mg doesn't seem to do much for anyone.
I tried wellbutrin with just about every ssri out there, in different combinations and dosages but in three years I haven't found anything that significantly offsets the sexual side effects of ssris.
Unfortunately, I think that if you're prone to the sexual s/e's of ssri there is nothing you can do about it - other than to stop taking them.
It really sucks because I really liked lexapro but in the end had to choose between stress/irritability and the sex.
Can Lexapro cause asthma attacks?
It is known that serotonin may cause bronchial constriction (tight airways) and increase the amount of histamine that is released. Probably, for these reasons all well-known SSRIs (like Lexapro, Zoloft, Paxil, Celexa, Prozac) might cause different breathing problems (like cough, wheezing or even asthma).
You should NOT stop taking those medications cold turkey with out severe side effects. Go back on your regular dosage. Call the doctor that perscribed the medication and tell him you would like to stop taking it. At that point you and your Doctor can come up with a weening program that will make the transistion much more comfortable and safe for you. You have a much better chance of relapse if you quit cold turkey. Take care
Does anyone have vertigo or swishing noises when turning head while coming off of lexapro?
Yes! I started taking Lexapro about 4 weeks ago and I ran out of the trial packs my doctor gave me. He gave me 10mgs. to start on. I have not taken it in four days, and I feel weird! Vertigo feeling, panick, crying, can't concentrate, "buzzy" feeling in my head, bad dreams, can't sleep, nausea, VERY sensative to everything!(light, noise, touch, etc.) He put me on Lexapro to help deal with my Fiancee's deployment to Iraq, recently. I felt better about things, before all these withdrawal symptoms started happening....hang in there, and keep bugging your doctor about getting on something else!
