It was occupied by Britain in WW1 and didn't do much, but in WW2 Libya was invaded by the Central Powers who were subsequently defeated by Australian forces. Tripoli was the focal point of the campaign where there was an epic showdown between the Australians and the brutal German commander Rommel. Rommel suffered his first ever defeat at the hands of the Australians after a legendary military career. This kind of destroyed German and Italian morale on the Southern Front.
