Where is the operating system located in the computer?

The operator system is software- a program that controls the computer. It is usually stored on the hard drive when the computer is not running and is read into a special portion of main memory when the computer is booted up. (There is a boot strap program stored on a chip that loads the O. S. into memory. ) Some of the routines needed by the operating system are not kept in the main memory but are read in only as they are needed.

Is Java necessary for Mac?

You can indeed run Java on Mac OS. Java is not dependant on the single computer architecture but depends on the JVM (Java Virtual Machine). One of the most powerful features in Java is that it promises WORA (Write Once, Run Anywhere(eg. Mac, Windows, Unix).

If you can't run java on your Mac do one of the following:

- Go to Apples website -> Support -> Search for "Java for Mac"

- Use the Software Update feature (available on the Apple menu) to check that you have the most up-to-date version of Java for your Mac.*

*From Oracles website (Java developer)

Can you connect your iRig into your iMac O X?

If you go to their web site it does have this description:

Most Mac computers starting from late 2008 are compatible with the exception of the Mac Pro line. (I would assume it's because the MacPro has a different size audio jack? Just need to buy another adapter, my 2010 does have the software listed)

To check if your Mac is compatible select: About This Mac > More Info > System Report > Audio

and check that "External Microphone / iPhone headset" is appearing on the list of included features.

It does seem it's been optimised for the "i" products tho. Might check the "Mac App Store" to see if they have their software there for the computers.

How do you get your mac to stop redirecting?

Well, you could have 1 of 3 problems. I will not bore you with a bunch of "fancy Tech gibberish," instead I will offer the solutions to these problems. You may try one or all of these in any order, but I suggest you try them in order, as I have arranged them according to the most likely problem and the best solution. *Please note that a virus is also always a possible answer. However, viruses are usually not very popular in Mac software.

Knowing that:

Solution 1

If you are experiencing "pop-up ads" as well as your redirecting problem (and in some cases even if you're not) then you have a quick and simple fix. Just google search either Firefox Ad Blocker or Safari Ad Blocker (depending on your preferred internet browser) and install the software. This should only take a few seconds and works quite well. If the ads persist, close out of any you see and refresh the page. This should solve both your pop-up ad problem and you redirecting problem.

Solution 2

In the event that you already have Ad Blocker software, solution 1 did not work, or your browser is redirecting too much to try solution 1, you can take the long way there. First open the Go to Folder in Finder and type /etc in the box. Then click on the Hosts file. This should open a Text Edit document that looks something like this:

##

# Host Database

#

# localhost is used to configure the loopback interface

# when the system is booting. Do not change this entry.

##

127.0.0.1 localhost

255.255.255.255 broadcasthost

::1 localhost

fe80::1%lo0 localhost

Delete anything above or bellow that and "save as..." (not save, it wont let you do that) as hosts (get rid of the .txt at the end) and save to the desktop. This should stop your Mac from redirecting, but if you don't already have Ad Blocker software I suggest you also follow step 1 again to keep this problem (and several others) from reoccurring in the future.

Solution 3

If you already have Ad Blocker software and your Hosts file looks exactly like the one shown above (with nothing extra above or bellow it) then you might simply need to update your Mac. This can be a short or long process depending on when you last updated and what updates are newly available. After your update you Mac should be good as new. If the problem is still there you can try updating the browser you're using (ie. Firefox or Safari) as updating your Mac is a separate process.

If your Mac is STILL redirecting after all of that, then you may have a virus (as mentioned above) or you have a different software problem than the one this article was written to fix. If this is the case I suggest either calling Tech Support (and trying to be REALLY patient) or searching the internet (if you can) for other ways to solve the problem. You could always try posting a description of your specific problem here and I will try to help you, but I apologize in advance if I can't. (There's a lot of stuff I know, but there's much more I don't. That's why they make people smarter than me ;)

How do you turn Mac OS apps into Windows 7 apps?

There are two different files on Mac OS and on Windows 7. They are .zip (Mac OS) and .exe (Windows 7). If you put the app you want off the Mac on to a memory stick and then plug the memory stick into the Windows 7 computer, you will find the file on there but it won't work. Thats because Windows 7 only supports .exe files so you got to:

  1. Go to The start menu
  2. Then click Control Panel
  3. you shall see Appearances and personalisation so click and then click folder options and select Hide file name extensions if it's ticked.
  4. Then go to the app you want to put on and right click on it and click extract .........(Name of program) (if it doesn't show another icon do the same....Right click and select the option underneath extract .........
  5. Then right click the icon that should say (program name).zip and click rename.
  6. Then delete .zip and type .exe and it should work if not I will improve this.

The other way around would be the same only the instructions are different from where it's got the numbered instructions

  1. Right click and select get info on a icon
  2. Then untick the box under Name and extensions that says Hide Extensions.
  3. Then at the top right of the the screen it should say Finder click it and select preferences and tick show all file name extensions and go back to Get info.
  4. Where the title is under Names and extensions change the file extension to .zip and press the enter key on the keyboard and it should come up with a box so click use .zip and your done.

Hope this works
