They start around $800 and end around $1800 but you need to take into account the quality and the other things you need (Stands harnesses etc.)

There is no set number. It can vary from 3 to 30.

I marched in President Richard M. Nixon's second inaugural parade on January 20, 1973 with the Thomas A. Edison High School marching band from Alexandria, Virginia. I remember there being 1977 members of this event entry which included all of the area high school bands, drum majors, majorettes and flag twirlers. This number reflected the year Mr. Nixon would have been ended his term. We practiced on a runway at Andrews Air force Base and were purported by the president to be his favorite event due to the massive number of participants who marched in precise harmony and as one in a cohesive unit. I DO recall hearing the president saying this on national television news, but am searching the Internet for written verification of his statement. It was truly one of the highlights of my life...

That would be types of instruments that aren't portable, like a piano (Electronic ones can be marched and played, though) or a xylophone (although the little xylophone called a Glockenspiel is often used) or instruments that are too heavy or awkward to march with, like tubas, larger saxophones, and possibly the large clarinets. French horns are generally not used in a marching band, but once in a great while, are. Instruments that need to be plugged in to power are usually not in marching bands, but are occasionally seen in the form of a bass guitar using a car battery and so forth on a cart.

The different styles of marching band hats have different names. The typical hat, which is shaped like a bucket and has a plume on top, is called a Shako. The style which resembles a "three musketeers hat" is called an Aussie.

The drum major usually carries the baton. It its a girl it is called a drum majorette.

John Philip Sousa was primarily a conductor and composer for most of his career, but during his apprenticeship in the US Marine band as a child he learned many instruments. As an adult his main instrument was the violin.

Because oboes rock so much that the people didn't want their awesomeness to interfere with the rest of the stinky band. JK! :P The reeds crack easily, and some people think that people can get "hurt" with the reed if the oboe is ever out of their mouth. Another problem is that oboes expands enormously with humidity making the pitch hard to find and making the oboe crack in certain cases.

In the UIL State Marching Contest, Marcus High School, from Flowermound, has shown dominance since 2006.

In the Bands of America competition, the most competitive circuit for high school marching bands, many schools have come out on top, most recently Johnson High School, from San Antonio. Many bands, however have been on top at this competition, including Reagan, LD Bell, The Woodlands, and even Marcus.

In conclusion, in terms of overall dominance, one could say that Marcus is the best. In terms of overall consistency since the school's opening, Reagan would probably be considered the best.

I honestly cant tell you the top ten college marching bands. But i can tell you that the Ohio State Marching Band is the best in the country. I believe they have 225 members in the band that all have to pass a tryout, and even after they make it in the band they all have to audition every week to be able to play in the game. 33 band members sit out each week because they werent good enough that week. I hope this helped a little bit.

Though any instrument could play the melody at any time in any given marching band musical piece, and in many pieces each instrument plays the melody or a variation of it at some point, the most common instruments to play the melody are the trumpet, clarinet, piccolo/flute, and alto saxophone.

Unlike sports, marching bands normally do NOT offer scholarships for talented players headed to college. (If you find one, let me know.) In marching band, it doesn't matter if one person is exceptionally gifted: if the whole band looks sloppy while one scholarship student looks excellent, they will still receive a bad rating or a bad response from the crowd. University bands also do not attend competitions, so the school would receive nothing in return for a marching band scholarship like they would for a talented basketball player, talented football player, etc.

However, many universities offer music scholarships for music majors, minors, and other advanced musicians who audition for that university's music program. In addition, I'm sure drum corps (professional) bands may offer scholarships or other reprieves to exceptional players who cannot afford to pay the hefty fee.

It depends on your skill, strength, and coordination really. An instrument like the flute is good for people just starting out because they almost always carry the melody and they're really light, however their parts can often be fast and difficult to play. Obviously, heavier instruments require more strength and deeper instruments don't usually carry the melody.

This can be a difficult question to answer, not only because band sizes fluctuate from year to year, but because some bands only march upperclassmen and/or hold out alternates.

Arcadia HS from Arcadia is usually the biggest, ranging between 375 and 425 members.

Reedley HS from Reedley is often close behind, with between 275 and 350 members.

James Logan HS from Union City is frequently between 225 and 275 members.

There are many thousands of high school bands found in the United States alone. There are many more band found across the world.

Marching

Clarinets are a vital part of any woodwind section, and thus are in high school bands. Sometimes colleges will march clarinets, as well, but sometimes they only take brass and percussion. DCI never marches woodwinds, though, because it is a drum corps, and a drum corps, by definition, only has brass and precussion.

Speaking from personal experiences I've seen many different marching bands that range in sizes from very small to very large.

There are many small bands that contain only 20-30 people total and some bands that contain 300+ members. While those large bands can be really impressive, I have seen numerous smaller bands that were immensely talented and performed just as well if not better than larger bands.
