Who is the best high school marching band in the state of Texas?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

It depends on what criteria you are looking at.

In the UIL State Marching Contest, Marcus High School, from Flowermound, has shown dominance since 2006.

In the Bands of America competition, the most competitive circuit for high school marching bands, many schools have come out on top, most recently Johnson High School, from San Antonio. Many bands, however have been on top at this competition, including Reagan, LD Bell, The Woodlands, and even Marcus.

In conclusion, in terms of overall dominance, one could say that Marcus is the best. In terms of overall consistency since the school's opening, Reagan would probably be considered the best.

What are the ten largest college marching bands?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

I honestly cant tell you the top ten college marching bands. But i can tell you that the Ohio State Marching Band is the best in the country. I believe they have 225 members in the band that all have to pass a tryout, and even after they make it in the band they all have to audition every week to be able to play in the game. 33 band members sit out each week because they werent good enough that week. I hope this helped a little bit.

Can you get marching band scholarships?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

Unlike sports, marching bands normally do NOT offer scholarships for talented players headed to college. (If you find one, let me know.) In marching band, it doesn't matter if one person is exceptionally gifted: if the whole band looks sloppy while one scholarship student looks excellent, they will still receive a bad rating or a bad response from the crowd. University bands also do not attend competitions, so the school would receive nothing in return for a marching band scholarship like they would for a talented basketball player, talented football player, etc.

However, many universities offer music scholarships for music majors, minors, and other advanced musicians who audition for that university's music program. In addition, I'm sure drum corps (professional) bands may offer scholarships or other reprieves to exceptional players who cannot afford to pay the hefty fee.

How is marching band organized?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

It depends on your skill, strength, and coordination really. An instrument like the flute is good for people just starting out because they almost always carry the melody and they're really light, however their parts can often be fast and difficult to play. Obviously, heavier instruments require more strength and deeper instruments don't usually carry the melody.

What are the five largest high school marching bands in Pennsylvania?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

This can be a difficult question to answer, not only because band sizes fluctuate from year to year, but because some bands only march upperclassmen and/or hold out alternates.

Arcadia HS from Arcadia is usually the biggest, ranging between 375 and 425 members.

Reedley HS from Reedley is often close behind, with between 275 and 350 members.

James Logan HS from Union City is frequently between 225 and 275 members.

After that it gets tough to figure out, as there are dozens of bands in California that routinely march around or over 200 members. An incomplete list:
Analy HS, Sebastopol
Amador Valley HS, Pleasanton
Ayala HS, Chino Hills
Diamond Bar HS, Diamond Bar
El Dorado HS, Placentia
Foothill HS, Pleasanton
Homestead HS, Cupertino
John F. Kennedy HS, La Palma
Monache HS, Porterville
Mt. Carmel HS, San Diego
Porterville HS, Porterville
Poway HS, Poway
Rancho Bernardo HS, San Diego
Saratoga HS, Saratoga

Are there clarinets in the marching band?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

Clarinets are a vital part of any woodwind section, and thus are in high school bands. Sometimes colleges will march clarinets, as well, but sometimes they only take brass and percussion. DCI never marches woodwinds, though, because it is a drum corps, and a drum corps, by definition, only has brass and precussion.

How long is a chorus line in a marching band?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

Speaking from personal experiences I've seen many different marching bands that range in sizes from very small to very large.

There are many small bands that contain only 20-30 people total and some bands that contain 300+ members. While those large bands can be really impressive, I have seen numerous smaller bands that were immensely talented and performed just as well if not better than larger bands.

What is a celebration with marching bands?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

Many celebrations include marching bands or drum corps. Different holidays where parades occur are good times to see a marching band perform in a parade setting.

Along with parades marching bands also perform field shows that most often take place during the halftime of a football game. Of course, a football game only has at maximum two bands that each perform once. Many bands also take part in competitions as well as band festivals. Both of these types of shows focus completely on marching bands and their performances.

Numerous marching bands belong to different competitive organizations whether they are a high school band, college band, or some variation of a drum corps. Since these organizations have member schools that vary in size, they have different levels of judging depending upon the size of the school/marching unit. Each of these organizations hosts so many shows a year where these groups perform usually culminating in a championship for the year.

Band festivals differ from competitions for the fact that they are not judged and simply a way for bands to perform their shows.

What is the importance of the clarinet in a marching band?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

Answer cymbals in marching bandBecause with out the cymbals there would absolutely be no CRASH!!! [:

Cymbals and other percussion generally used for effect purposes. Sure you don't need cymbals, just like you don't technically need flutes since in most bands, you can't hear them. However, the only crescendo - that means getting louder-you would have would be the band getting louder and that;s it. there would be no resolution to the tension, doing a crescendo creates, and bands would seem pretty dull.

In places like Drum Corps, Colleges, Indoor Percussion units and some of the better marching bands, cymbals is a thing of tradition. Theyy may only play three notes in one song, but the rest of the time, they're spinning and flipping their cymbals and doing crazy stuff. Go look up Santa Clara Vanguard cymbal line on YouTube. That should give you an idea.

Hope this helped!
