Marching Bands

In order to be AAAA or 4A according to Bands of America (BOA) procedures, ALL students enrolled at the school (not just those in the band) in grades 10-12, using the numbers used in determining funding at the state level for each school, must amount to 1,751 students and above.

Typically, if you enroll in marching band in high school or college, you receive some academic credit - about 1 or 2 credit hours. Using the Bowling Green State University Falcon Marching Band as my reference (a band that I am a proud member of), grading is based on your daily attendance, music memorization check-offs, attendance at games, and overall perceived attitude by the director.

The trumpet makes a beautiful noise and its easy to read the small music u attach on BUT the mouthpiece when marching has 2 be plastic else it gets very hold becuz its metal.... I play the clarinet :( .... gets boring but beautiful in the high notes but when marching ur music is down low.... if u play bass clarinet u use ur reg. clariney 4 marching

Just something that is durable but still sounds okay. I'm not saying to get a cheap, bad sounding clarinet, but you certainly don't want to use something expensive. It WILL get scratched up, and possibly dropped and so it will be more prone to damage. Plastic is probably a better choice. I used a plastic Yamaha clarinet for years and it was good through all the rain and damage.

actually, most marching bands use susaphones which are just marching tuba's. the reason is because they are light weight antd a heck of a lot easier to carry

Some wear the marching band hat strap under the chin to keep it in place, others wear it on the chin to look more aggressive (but it often leads to hats left on the field). Ask your band director which is correct for your band.

University of Washington Husky Marching Band was created in 1929.

There are three types of drums that are common in marching band: the Snare drum, the Bass drum, and the Quad-Toms. Cymbals are also common in marching band, even though they are not a drum. If your school has a drumline, chances are there will be cymbals in it because they are commonly thought of as percussion instruments.

Also, a lot of universities have corp bands that also marches military sometimes. Stephen F. Austin State University, for example, does corp half time shows and military pre-game drills. Sam Houston State University does the same.

Most marching bands wear a hard tall hat with a chin strap, long pants that strap over your shoulders, and a shirt that has hard, stiff shoulders and stiff seams and sides.
