Menstruation

Menstruation is the routine discharge, or release, of blood and mucosal tissue from the uterus. This process occurs about once a month from the time a female reaches puberty until menopause. During pregnancy, the monthly menstrual cycle is absent while the womb nourishes the growing fetus.

Count ovulation day from first day or after period end?

Ovulation occurs 14 days BEFORE your period.

Unless you use fertility awareness method you can't know when you are fertile or ovulating, guessing fertile days like this is unreliable and if trying to avoid pregnancy it will fail.

Is it safe to wear tampons when you gave birth 2 months ago?

Yes, you can wear tampons if you gave birth two months ago. You can resume all normal activities as long as you're comfortable.

Why has your period lasted 8 days heavy but with no clots?

The average menstrual period lasts around 5-7 days but a little longer than that is not unusual - if it lasts over 14 days then it's recommended to see a doctor. Your menstrual flow isn't supposed to have clots, most of the lumps seen in menstrual flow is larger pieces of uterine lining, they're not always present.

If a patient is diagnosed with depression and Post Truamatic Stress Disorder prior to surgery and signs a consent to surgery is that considered negligence?

Probably not. It is of course difficult to comment without knowing more about the case and specifics, but the question of whether a person can consent to surgery depends on whether they are deemed mentally competent to make decisions about their own health care. Patients have autonomy, meaning they are allowed to make their own decisions about their healthcare, even if doctors (or family!) think they are making the "wrong" decisions. Competence requires the ability to understand the procedure being proposed, the reasons for it, the risks of the procedure, the risks of not having it, and being able to retain that information and make decisions based on it. Depression and PTSD normally do not render a person incompetent, i.e. needing someone else to make decisions and sign forms for them. However, if a person is having delusions or psychosis, or if they cannot retain or understand information presented to them about risks and benefits of surgery, they may be temporarily incompetent.

Some would argue that it would be inappropriate, maybe even negligent, for a doctor to discriminate against a patient with depression by not allowing them to make decisions for themselves...

Can a girl get please by putting in a tampon?

Yes, I guess technically you can because it is going up your vagina but you shouldn't use tampons unless you have your period

Why women cannot touch plants during menstruation?

They certainly can. That is an old myth which used to be believed because people did not understand menstruation and were afraid of it. Today we know it is a normal and necessary bodily function, and there are few things a woman or girl who is menstruating cannot do. Menstruating women back in the old days were told they should not go to college, or do exercises or work in their garden, but today we know this is not true. So, feel free to work with your plants-- there is no credible evidence that your garden will be affected by your menstrual cycle.

Can you lose your virginity without starting your medistrational cycle?

First, I think you mean menstrual cycle, and second, yes. Losing your virginity has nothing to do with menstruation. You may bleed when you have sex the first time, but that is not the same thing as your period. Considering how completely uninformed you seem to be, I suggest not having sex yet. Get yourself educated, maybe wait until you are a little older.

Can you still have cravings if you don't have a period anymore?

Yes, cravings are not really controlled by menstruation. You can get cravings at any time.

Does Altitude affect menstrual cycle?

I moved up to the Sierra Nevada Mountains (7500 ft) in May, My period came two weeks early (I have NEVER had any irregularities in 12 years of menstruation). When I moved back down from the Mountains (September) my period was two weeks late.

Yes it does but it depends with individuals; it does happen differently with seasons too. For some its either days earlier than the intended menstrual cycle and for some its days after or even weeks after. Although its not good to assume, always consult your GYNA if at all you are too worried.

Can continuous use of tampons cause vaginitis?

There's no such thing as a safe tampon - there are always health risks due to effect on the vagina, they're self-tested and self-regulated so there are health concerns with commercial brands too.

Tampons dry-out vaginal tissues causing splitting and ulceration which can contribute to vaginitis, they allow bacterial growth while preventing vaginal cleaning so increase risks of vaginal infections, and commercial tampons may contain hundreds of chemicals that could cause irritation.

If using tampons over safer options like pads or cups it's important to only use them during your period, change regularly, do not use with light flow or overnight, also alternate with pads to allow your vagina a chance to heal and clean itself after tampon use. Ideally use organic cotton tampons.

Why are girls mean when they're on their period?

Because they are very hormonal

I wouldn't say mean but we can be short tempered and irritated. Mainly because there's pain to the stomach and back and pelvis. Some also get headaches and migraines.

I believe there are three reasons for this. One is that women retain water and second, different hormone levels are higher. These first two change the function of the brain. Women who have epilepsy, for example, may have more seizures at their "time of the month". These are called catamenial seizures. The "brain soup", the fluid that our brain sits in changes with neurotransmitters, hormones and enzymes and water. This changes function.

Third, women are in pain. Pain has a tendency to make anyone irritable and less tolerant.

Hope this helps!

C.E. M. (nurse)

Actually, they aren't mean on their period! When they are on their period, hormones are released. Overall, all these hormones make the girl more energetic, adventurous, higher adrenaline, that basic idea. Now, why do people relate this to being meaner? Well, girls that were originally secretly mean now have a tiny bit more adrenaline. The period has just been overly exaggerated. Tbh, these types of girls (such as the nurse above me) will blame their everything on their period. That's like defining emotional character on some physical change.

Don't believe it! Be realistic!
