The fuel pump is underneath the back seat, lift this seat up pull a black cap off on pass. side and you should be staring at it.
transmission pretty much looks like any other. hard to answer that question! lol. but while we are talking about mystique transmission, let me share a story that could save somebody thousands of dollars. (Maybe hundreds of dollars, but lots) driving to work one day and all of a sudden i feel a little shudder/ shake in the vehicle, immediately look at the dash board for lights or something and i see my speedo needle drop to zero. car kept going but after a few minutes the overdrive light starts flashing on the dashboard and it wouldn't shift properly. took it to Mr. Transmission (canada) and they tried to tell me my tranny is very much screwed inside and they will need 1800 to 2200 dollars to fix it. i told them absolutely no way im going to spend that much money on a car i only paid a thousand dollars for. he says,, hold on , there might be a way to save you a lot of money. goes in back, comes back out and says "were going to replace your speed sensor and see if that fixes the electronics connection and sort everything out. Sure enough, $250.00 later the car is fixed (and im sure they made money on that as well)Dude was totally ready to take my 2000.00 bucks if i was ready to give it to him. Be careful people. Do major research before you take your care to a repair shop. It is sickening how their main goal is to screw you over now or tinker with something in your car so you will have to come back later.
There is a battery light above the engine temperature gauge
You have to start by checking the bulbs or the flasher I think it may be the flasher.>>>>>>>>>>>>>
That would be your LOW engine coolant light
You can view the 1999 Mercury Mystique owners manual online at :

My first thought was that you may have a head gasket problem. To verify before spending much money, have a compression & leak down test performed on each cylinder. Each should read 90 to 110.
below the fog lights there is one on each side
the transmission is located on the driver's side of the engine and yes the engine has to be removed to change the transmission
At the front of the engine will be a few components that have pulleys with a belts around them. Only one component will NOT have hoses going to it, but only wires. This is it.
On my 98 mystique, it was located behind the motor on the passenger side. Just be careful when replacing it though, and probably change the alternator plug as well. My new alternator blew out the old plug. Had to have the car towed twice in 2 days!
You could change the spark plugs, sprak plug wires, computer chip.
Remove - battery cable Raise and support vehicle if needed Disconnect wiring at top of starter Remove starter mounting bolts Remove starter
my battery is new for mercery mistque 1999 but the light on the dash board goes on and off why
Means there is something wrong with your transmission. Need to hook up to a computer & get the code normally but can be external damage also. My 97 F150 did that when the transmission mount broke.
Replacing ERG Valves in a 1998 Mercury Mystique is fairly hard because it requires great precision to avoid blocking the EGR passage.
you need to get them down at 95 ft pounds
every other
What does the code P0190 mean on your 200 Mercury Mistique?
It is actually inside the transmission itself. You get to it be removing the transmission pan.
It sounds like the fluid pump is out, or almost out. Having to "re-start" the engine for it to shift right is definatly an electrical problum, and is very common on these transmissions. What you are doing is reseting the transmissions T C M,{or brain} it will shift right again, until it gets a code for a problem, then it wont shift right again.
It is probably going into "limp" mode which is a safety feature for these transmissions, which may seem aggravating, but is actually to your advantage.
It will get you to take the vehical to a shop to see whats wrong, before to much damage is done.
These transmissions are actually a great invention by Chrysler, and one of the best out there if rebuilt with all the up-dates and fixes they have made over the years.
Its truley an amazing transmission if you know what goes on inside. {all electrical}
It is very hard to diagnose without hooking it up to a computer for a complete anaylsis.
I would suggest you call around to a local trans shop and ask if they have "FREE" diagnoisis, most will do this free.
They will hook up a small computer to your transmission, and it will tell the tech EXACTLY WHAT ITS DOING INSIDE, AND WHAT FAULT CODES IT IS THROWING.
You can go from there on what to do.
"PLEASE NOTE"!!!!! MOST LARGE SHOPS ; IE "AMMCO" and the like, will IMMEDITALY TELL YOU THAT YOU NEED A REBUILD... GET A SECOND OPNION!!! FROM A SMALLER SHOP.
There may be other small things that you can do to make the "fix" on your trans.
Many times its just an "in-put" out-put sensor, or a solenoid pack, or the TCM its self. These items are WAY CHEAPER than a rebuild. That's why you need to see EXACTLY WHAT THE FAULT CODES ARE.
"DO NOT JUST TAKE THE TRANSMISSION SHOPS WORD THAT YOU NEED A REBUILD"
THATS HOW MANY SHOPS WORK.... PREYING ON PROPLE WHO DONT KNOW !!!!!!
{sad , but true} below is a "very informative site that list cheap "fixes" to your transmission. I found it very helpful!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! look it over, clear down to the bottom of the page, it lists many fixes.

It isn't under there, it is under the hood, next to the battery, where it says power distribution box
It is there indeed ya should notice it has a release on it that lets the fuse panel to drop down u may need a good flashlight for this. Take the access cover off an reach under the dash and release the clip system that lets it down. Easy easy easy
check by the pedals to the left if should be in the paneling there will be a little sticker pointing it out. you'll have to push it up if it has been engaged
