Most MRSA infections are skin infections. One major problem with MRSA is that occasionally the skin infection can spread to almost any other organ in the body. When this happens, more severe symptoms develop ranging from illness to death. People with pneumonia (lung infection) due to MRSA can transmit MRSA by airborne droplets so obviously MRSA can be present in their throats and would show up in a throat culture. It is not necessarily the case that it would ALWAYS or even USUALLY show up in a throat culture of someone infected with MRSA.
