How do you freeze panes on Microsoft Excel?

You will find it in the Window Menu. Wherever the cursor is when you Freeze Panes, everything above and left of the cursor will be frozen. So if you want Row 1 and Column A to be permanently shown when you scroll down or across, click on cell B2. Row 1 is above it and Column A is to the left of it. Now go to the Window menu and choose Freeze Panes. Row 1 and Column A will now be frozen. To unfreeze the panes, go to the Window menu and Unfreeze Panes will be there now, because the sheet has frozen panes.
Click in the cell below and to the right of the panes you want to freeze, then click on the window menu and select 'Freeze Panes'.
As you scroll down or across a spreadsheet, rows or columns disappear off the edge of the screen. Sometimes you will want to be able to see the first rows or columns, because they usually contain important headings or data in them, that will help identify the rest of the data you are looking at. If you have lots of columns of numbers, when you scroll down and their headings disappear off the screen, you may not be sure which column is which and what are the values they contain. So what you can do is use the Freeze Panes option to show some columns and rows permanently on the screen. Wherever the active cell is, all the rows above it and the columns to the left of it will remain on the screen, even when you start scrolling. So if you wanted column A and row 1 to remain on the screen, you would put make B3 the active cell and then use the Freeze Panes. You can unfreeze them at any time, as the menu option will have changed to Unfreeze Panes when next you open it

What are macro buttons?

Formula for average highest and lowest number?

Using the cells A1 to A15, the following functions can be used for what you want:

To get the highest value you can use either of two functions, though we most commonly use the first of these:

=MAX(A1:A15)

=LARGE(A1:A15,1)

The LARGE function can not only get the highest value, but also the second highest or third highest etc., by changing the 1 at the end to 2 or 3 etc.

To get the lowest you can use either of these two functions, where SMALL works similar to LARGE:

=MIN(A1:A15)

=SMALL(A1:A15,1)

To get an average you use the AVERAGE function:

=AVERAGE(A1:A15)

You could also get an average in this way, by totalling the values and divided by the amount of values by counting them, but it would be rarely used:

=Sum(A1:A15)/Count(A1:A15)

Why are cell addresses used in formulas in spreadsheet?

Because it means that if you change the value in a particular cell, the formula will automatically update its result. Say you want to add 45 and 19. If you put 45 into cell A1 and 19 into cell A2 then in cell A3 you could have a formula:

=45+19

That formula will give the result 64, which is correct. But if you then wanted to change one of the two original values, you would have to change the formula again to get the correct result. If you put 30 into A1 without changing the formula in A3, A3 will still show 64. It is still being told to add 45 and 19. The formula has no connection to the cells A1 and A2. You would have to change the formula in A3 to be =30+19 to get the correct result if you want to add 30 and 19. That means you keep having to change the formula to add different numbers, which is not very efficient. So what we do is put cell addresses instead of values into formulas. So into A3 you would put:

=A1+A2

For the original two values it will give 64. Then, without having to change the formula, if you change the 45 in A1 to 30, the formula will automatically add the 30 and 19 giving you 49, because the formula is telling it to add whatever values are in those two cells. So no matter what two values you put into A1 and A2, the formula in A3 will always add them.
