How does electrical train engine works?

All train engines are electric and work on the polarity changes associated with how the magnets are set up to spin the motor. In the case of a full size train the "trucks" are geared to the steel wheels that receive power from the diesel engine powered generators.

As for the model train the tracks are electrified and power the electric engines directly to the wheels and don't use a separate generator per se.

Most of the city type light transit use electricfied 3rd rain or overhead lines to power the electric drive "trucks".
