During the scene where she is speeding along the Moyen Corniche, she was said to have glanced over at Mediterranean countryside, along the coast, and inquired " "Whose gardens are those"? Screenwriter John Michael Hayes replied, "Prince Grimaldi's". She would not meet the prince until the following year.
In May of 1955, Grace was in Cannes (Cannes is in the tiny Principality of Monaco) for the Cannes Film Festival. She had just finished making "The Country Girl", which was nominated for Best Film at the Cannes Film Festival. She was shooting some publicity photos, and agreed to be photographed with Prince Rainier for the magazine Paris Match. This was their first meeting. Three days later, the Prince proposed.
Grace Kelly was married to Prince Rainier the following April of 1956.
