Can Pomelo be a mosquito repellant?

Yes. My mother has been practicing this for many, many years now. Indigenous knowledge? Probably. According to her, this practice is common in their barangay since she was young. She is now 67 years old and she came from a rice farming community in Cagayan Valley. She puts few fresh leaves of pomelo depending on the amount of rice to be poured in our rice dispenser and it works! No bugs in our rice. You just have to change the pomelo leaves every time you put another sack of rice in your dispenser.

What sort of weather do mosquitoes like to live in?

All they need is temperatures above the freezing point of water, and about a teaspoon of still water to lay eggs in for the larvae to hatch, they come out hungry and seem to be able to fly an obscenely long way before they have to feed on blood. Then again, they will feed on anything that doesn't eat them, and one study I have read seems to indicate that they can even drink plant sap once in a while. I'll see if I can find it again and include it as a link.

Do mosquitos carry viruses?

Malaria

Yellow Fervor

West Nile Virus

these diseases find a hospitable haven in the mosquito's saliva reserve. Mosquitoes use their saliva as a pain-killer and as an anti-coagulant so they actually push some into its victim when they bite. When a mosquito bits an infected animal it sucks these disease into its saliva space. When it bites an uninfected victim it pushes infected saliva into it/him/her.

How long does a mosquito baby take to grow?

The length of time depends upon the habitat's weather and the mosquito's species.

Specifically, the insect in question (Culicidae family) can pass through the life cycle stages of egg, larva, pupa and adult within 4-14 days. But the exact time spent in each stage depends upon the species. It also reflects the impact of weather since colder temperatures slow the development to the point that it is possible for the developing mosquito to overwinter until the following spring.

Where are mosquitoes habitat?

"Do mosquitoes ever get to sleep at night?" Generally no. Mosquitoes are by nature nocturnal creatures. "Most mosquito species are either nocturnal or crepuscular and remain relatively inactive during the daylight hours." "Natural resting sites for mosquitoes include dense vegetation, animal bur-rows, caves, and tree holes. Basements, stables, chicken coops, and culverts are examples of man-made structures harboring large diurnal populations of resting mosquitoes."

Do mosquitos reproduce?

There are both male and female mosquitoes.
Thank the gods that they are sexual. If they were asexual we would have quite a bit more of an epidemic on our hands. Fortunately it takes a male and female mosquito to have fertilized eggs, which makes it easier to kill them and prevent them from breeding.

Interestingly, they may be a species of pure inbreds seeing how they have not evolved over the course of tens to hundreds of millions of years;. thus if you went back in time and killed one, you wouldn't have entered the grandfather paradox.

How do you stop mosquito bites from itching?

Use Calomine lotion (i'm not sure that's how you spell it) also if you rub it instead of itching it you won't damage it as much so it will heal faster

Also Try Hand Sanitizer... But don't put it on if has broken the skin or bleeding... It can really sting you can even put windex but not if its broken skin or bleeding -With your fingernail mark an X over it.

Apply nail polish to the bite and leave until the itch fades, it is believed this method works by keeping air from the bite.

How do you stop misquitos from biting you?

Some tips on avoiding being bitten: At home: * Put screens on doors and windows * Use sprays indoors when mosquitoes are around * Use mosquito coils * Use a mosquito net impregnated with insecticide over beds at night * Turn on air conditioning if you have it - this is very effective at keeping mosquitoes out of a room Outdoors: * Wear a repellent cream or spray preferably containing DEET (diethyl toluamide); formulations containing less than 35% DEET are recommended because higher concentrations are no more effective (they just work for longer) but in rare cases may cause poisoning. Repellent should not be applied to wounds or irritated skin. * Vitamin B does not prevent mosquito bites. * Wear protective clothing such as long sleeved shirts, long pants and hats to minimise skin exposure. Clothing can be treated with repellent. * Wear light coloured clothing - ticks and other insects are more easily detected on a light background and tsetse flies are attracted to dark, contrasting colours. * Use screens on tents * Avoid places where mosquitoes are most active, such as swampy areas

Answer 2:

Mosquitoes, gnats, fleas and many other little critters all played a crucial role in the evolution of many species. They transferrred nasty plagues, diseases, infections and other epidemics which kept many species numbers to a minimum until, by natural immunity and selection, won out. New viruses are constantly emerging as have been happenning lately and for the past billion or more years.

It has only been a few millenia since humans began utilising remedial medicines such as herbs, tree bark and other means, that the human race (aptly named) began an unprecedented population increase. With our advanced medical technology, and extended life span, we are the only mamalian species to have conquered most diseases that otherwise would have possibly seen the human population at about one tenth, possibly even one onehundreth of what it is today. Who knows what toll the bird flu, HIV, new strains of influenza, the Plague, and a host of others would have wreaked.

So, the natural purpose of these critters is now largely defunct with humans, and, in return, we humans are killing everything on the planet, either directly or indirectly.

Food for thought.

Where do mosquitoes breed in your house?

Why do some mosquito's buzz and some don't?

The wings beat 300-600 times per second. When you hear something it means something is vibrating. So you can hear mosquito's buzzing because of the vibration of its wings, but you cant hear the movement of your hand because it does not vibrate.
