What equipment for freestyle motorcross?

FMX riders typically use much of the same riding gear as MX racers. This includes a helmet, goggles, gloves, boots, jersey and MX pants. They may supplement this with elbow and knee pads. Riders may also choose to wear 'body armor' to protect the chest and legs when performing the most dangerous of tricks, as did Travis Pastrana when performing his double backflips. A Leatt neck brace may also be worn if rider are concerned about neck injuries or are attempting dangerous tricks. One major component of Freestyle Motocross is the foam pit. These vary in size, but are usually a rectangular box filled with shredded or cubed foam. The FMX rider will jump from a ramp, practicing one of the more dangerous or prototype tricks, and execute a safe landing into the safe foam regardless of the actual landing position. Ramps are usually made out of metal, as this keep the 'lips' of the ramp consistent. The landing ramp is normally constructed from dirt. If the event has limited resources, landings ramps may be built on trucks or trailers. When freeriding, however, the rider jumps from dirt to dirt.

Do you have to go to school to become a professional motocross racer?

Not necessarily. Most motocross riders start out pretty young, even in their elementary years. I always believed that STARTING YOUNG IN A HIGHLY-DANGEROUS COMPETITIVE SPORT such as motocross is good. At a young age, you are more able to experience MORE falls, MORE mistakes, MORE side, front and rear collisions with your rivals and peers. THESE MAKE YOU PREPARED, TOUGHER and give you AN INTERNAL SENSE OF WHAT IS GOING ON AROUND YOU AT HIGH SPEED. You are then learning, at a very early age, to PROJECT and COMPUTE the speeds you need to attain to FIT YOUR BIKE ON YOUR BEAD (a "bead" is your practiced route around the track, which you intend to take and finish at the shortest time possible- it is also the route you know best, where your skills are just right for the challenge of the track). "Fitting your bike on your bead" means riding your own way through the track at very high speed WHILE OTHER PEOPLE ARE BUSY CROSSING YOUR PATH and flying above your head, FOLLOWING THEIR BEADS. You also gain REFLEXES- the automatic body reactions to situations that occur at high speed, such as another rider crossing your front end at a very tight turn. Using the proper brake (front, rear, or both) depends pretty much on the angle of your front wheel, your body position on the bike- AND APPLYING THIS IN AN INSTANT can save lives, starting with yours. You don't need a college degree to learn these: you need hundreds of hours of practice on a track and other places such as bike trails in the big outdoors.

That being said, MOST YOUNG MOTOCROSS RIDERS NEVER MAKE IT TO COLLEGE because they are picked by talent scouts to ride for companies that have investments in motorcycle racing and motocross racing accessories.

But GET INTO MOTOCROSS AS A SPORT and don't forget that a college degree is much worth sweating MORE for. When you get too old to compete in races, a college degree, a business, a job- or all of these, will always be a better chance your future will be bright. THEN YOU CAN BUY A REALLY GOOD MOTOCROSS BIKE TO RIDE ON WEEKENDS AWAY FROM YOUR JOB.

How old do you have to be to do motorcross?

What is faster a Honda cr 85 or Honda crf 150f?

The numbers

(85...150) is essentially a measurement of engine size. So a larger engine would obviously be faster This isn't correct. The CR85 is a two stroke of the CRF150 is a fours stroke. So essentially they are the same in race spec and class. Technically in the right hands they are identical in speed. the two stroke will accelerate a little quicker but the 4 stroke gets it back in the mid range and they cross the line at about the same time. the CRF though is much heavier and in the wrong hands will get eaten up by the CR85 2 stroke.

Why does Travis Pastrana do all his crazy stunts?

To understand Travis Pastrana you must first take a look at his family especially his dad who is an ex-marine and is also pretty crazy. Yet believe it or not most of his stunts are well calculated and he does them because he basically gets paid to do them because of a sponsorship deal with Red Bull and maybe MTV can use his show to replace Jackass.

Is a yfz 450 faster than a raptor 660?

Okay, on a pavement or hard-packed dirt "drag race" (in a straight line) with both ATVS stock without any motification and both riders are about the same skill level, The 450 WILL beat the 700 in a shorter race, but if this is a longer drag race (nearly a km or a mile) The 700 should pull ahead, if the 700 has a exhaust mod or other types of peformance boosting modifications the 700 should be able to even beat the 450 in a shorter range drag race. At top speed the 700 is a faster machine in the long way, but the 450 has more "get up and go" (acceleration) so it will mostly beat the 700 in a short range drag race, but if both machines have peformance boosting mods in a long range the 700 should usually still beat the 450 by about 2-5 quad lengths

EDIT: That was all about speed, but if you want ome info about what one to buy read this: The YFZ is a good, very fast, high performance sport ATV but it more strictly for racing or fast/high speed trail riding or drag racing. It also has a very high maintenance level. You should keep on top of your oil changes , tire pressure, air filter, and grease bearing after ever 1-3 long distance rides. But if you just want a more comfortable quad for medium or fast trail riding or just having nice rides you should lean more towards the 700 raptor, The 700 has a quite a bit lower maintenance level but you should still keep on top of all your repairs and replacements for maximum performance. If you are looking to do a bit of LITTLE jumps (3-10 FT.) You should be fine with this- There is a lot of controversy about how this ATV's weight is unbalanced, this is somewhat true, if you are trying to hit larger jumps you may feel you might be un balanced or tilting forward when in mid-air this is because of the much larger engine and heavier components. But if you are looking to do high jumps you might want to looking into the YFZ because it is a very low center of gravity type of quad, If you are a larger person you may feel crammed while sitting on the YFZ. I personally have both type of ATV's i am a 16 year old guy that is about 5'11 180lbs i fit the quad perfectly i also like driving the YFZ because it feels like your in more control (may be because of the lower ground clearance) and i like to drive very aggressively. But if you have a chance try to try out both of them and see how you feel on each of the, if you do not feel completely comfortable on the YFZ it is a normal feeling (i felt it to and i had to get use to it) It is because of the tighter area and lower to the ground. The 700 raptor's seat is a quite a bit higher so you may feel more powerful on it, and just because its a 700 doesn't meant its better in all ways. If you are trying to decide between the two do research on the internet. (if your reading this you probably already are) I think that i covered most stuff that i wanted, If you have more questions email@: Jeremy_89_91@hotmail.com --Jeremy8991.

Is a ktm 105 good?

For 2008, KTM won the 85cc shootout, however there are more things to consider than someones opinion on what bike is best. Pick a bike that suits your riding style and size. Also, it doesn't matter how good a bike is, if you don't have a shop to help you with getting parts and technical knowledge, your bike is just another bike.

Is a Honda CRF150r motocross bike good for a 13 yr old who is 6ft tall and weighs 110 pounds?

A YZ250F may be a little too tall and too heavy for a 13-yr. old. If you're serious about developing skills, the better choice would be a 125cc two-stroke MX bike. The reason is that the four-stroke (YZ250F) is too easy to learn bad habits such as sitting down when you should be standing up, using engine braking instead of wheel braking, and not using the clutch properly. The two-stroke (YZ125) demands to be ridden aggressively and skillfully. If you're not in the right gear, the engine falls flat. If you don't use the clutch, the engine dies. It also teaches you the importance of maintaining corner speed. Even if you don't intend to race, the two-stroke is 35-40lbs. lighter than the four-stroke. That's a big difference, especially for someone your size and age. If you think that the maintainence on a four-stroke is less, you're wrong. If you are just going to trail ride, the best choice would be something like the Honda 230F. It's much lighter than the 250F, has electric start, is much better suited to trail ridiing (suspension settings, quicker steering, etc.), and it's an air-cooled four-stroke (less maintainence). It also costs less. Again, it's all about what you're going to do with it and/or how good you want to get. The 125 two-stroke is the best learning tool, but only if you're serious. The 230F is a great playbike, but it is a little underpowered. The 250F looks good in the truck, but it's just too big and heavy for you now. Honda 150r (the big wheel version) 4 strokes dominate 2 strokes. It's an excellent bike and I strongly recommend it. Answer im 14 an i got my yz250f at 13 at only 5'5 an i weigh 132 i had lil truble at first but i race it fine now. i also have a yz85. so im saying if u no how to ride well u should b ok cuz ur 2 inches taller then me lol. a 250f is way to tall for you if you are just 5' 7". i would recomend either a honda crf 150 but i would just wait a little longer until your 5' 9" and get yz/cr 125. the YZ series owns over a four stroke 150, also its the same frame size as a yfz 250 but ways alot less. im 14 and got a yz 125 when i was 13 at about 5' 8.5" DO NOT GET ONE UNTIL YOUR AT LEAST 5' 9". my buddy was 5' 8.5" at 12 and was racing a cr125 and landed a jump wrong we wasnt big enough for his bike, long story short he broke his whole shoulder left arm and 1 rib. Haha your friend must be a goon.I ride a250 4 stroke and a 250 2 stroke. I am 5' 6" and weigh 165. You can ride at any height its just skill.
