When was the Motown era?

Technically it's still going on, as Motown still exists as a record label within the Universal Music group; but most people consider the "Motown era" to be either from 1959 to 1972 - when the company was based in Detroit before moving to Los Angeles - or from 1959 to 1988, when the company was sold to RCA and ceased to be an independent label.

Where can you find a discography of Motown records release in England?

UK Tamla-Motown singles and albums are listed here: www.collectablecds.co.uk/label-discography.asp/label/5/Tamla-Motown-records-discography.html

Tamla-Motown only started issuing Motown records in the UK in 1965; before that, a number of British labels licensed Motown content, but I don't think there's a single consolidated list anywhere on the Internet.

A complete discography of US Motown singles (on all the various imprints, Gordy, Tamla, Soul, VIP etc) can be found at www.seabear.se/detroit1.htm
