Mount McKinley

It is called Denali or the Great One.
Numerous native peoples of the area had their own names for this prominent peak. The local Athabaskan name for the mountain, the one used by the Native Americans with access to the flanks of the mountain (living in the Yukon, Tanana and Kuskowim basins), is Dinale or Denali ("the High One"). To the South the Dena'ina people in the Susitna River valley used the name Dghelay Ka'a (simplified to Doleika), meaning "the big mountain", while the Aleuts called it Traleika.

There were, according to the tourism office Alaska until August 15 2011, 530 climbers on the Summit of Mount Mckinley. Visit up to 1000 ascended the alpinists that creates various base camp but only a handful to the Summit every year.

William dickey was digging for gold in the sands of the Susitna river and he wrote, after his return to the lower states, an account in the New York Sun “We named our great peak Mount McKinley, after William McKinley of Ohio, who had been nominated for the Presidency”. =D

Until 1852, Kangchenjunga was assumed to be the highest mountain in the world, but calculations based on various readings and measurements made by the Great Trigonometric Survey of India in 1849 came to the conclusion that Mount Everest, known as Peak XV at the time, was the highest.

Mount McKinley, also known as Denali, is primarily classified as a fold mountain. It was formed through the collision of tectonic plates, which caused the Earth's crust to fold and create the significant elevation we see today. This process is characteristic of fold mountains, where sedimentary rock layers are compressed and uplifted. Fault mountains, on the other hand, are formed primarily through faulting and the displacement of rock along fractures, which is not the case for Denali.

There was a first attempt by the Irishman W. H. Green in 1882, but he made it 50 metres short of the true summit.

The only peak in the Andes mountain range that is higher than Denali (also known as Mount McKinley) stands at 6,190 metres or 20,310 feet high is Aconcagua standing at 6,961 metres or 22,838 feet high.
