when you insert a cd the drawer goes in and a mechanism drops the magnetic ring down (or pushes up the cd) and it grabs the part below the cd basically clamping/sandwiching it in the spinner.

The classics pretty much only allow you to listen to music, the video gives you the option to watch music videos or movies, the iPod new generation has a video camera so you can record, and the iPod Touch is almost a complete computer, which can play music and movies, surf the internet and use many other applications. Make sure it has the Lightscribe feature so that it can print professional looking labels on the CDs at it duplicates them.

Be aware, however, that there's a steep learning curve to all of this and, if you do your recording in a room that is less than acoustically ideal, the finished product may not be much to listen to. Demo quality at best.
