Both types of museums will have a collection of pieces, and will display some of these pieces. In an art museum these pieces are works of art. In a natural history museum these pieces are historical artifacts.

Art Museums and other archival institutions don't want you to use a pen in their facilities to protect their holdings. If you should mark on something important, it is much more difficult to remove the ink from a pen than to remove the mark made by a pencil.

Advanced civilized countries have museums on a huge range of things that are not specific to the country. For example, there are museums in Britain and Germany with all kinds of artefacts from Ancient Greece. No country that I have visited is so narrow in outlook and so provincial as to limit its museums to things that happened on its territory. So I don't see anything odd in the fact that the U.S. has a Holocaust Memorial Museum in Washington DC. Moreover, the U.S. has a significant Jewish community, and many Jews regard the Holocaust as part of their indentity. As far as I know, there is no Museum devoted solely to Science Fiction. There have been temporary exhibits that honor in a sense sci-fi films dealing with space travel- for example - at the Smithsonian, National Air & Space museum and so on. There is no Museum devoted specially to Science Fiction, there may well- given the nature of the medium, be libraries that are specially sci-fi.

In 1947 the Polish government decided to preserve parts of Auschwitz I and II (Birkenau) and turn them into a museum. In view of the lack of money in the postwar period very little was done till the 1960s. Since then, the area has been designated as World Heritage Site. The museum is outside Oswiemcim, about 37 miles west of Krakow. Franciszek Piper (born in 1941) is the director of research at the Museum and has written several articles and a book on the history of the camp and on the Holocaust more generally.

After the capture and surrender of the French troops and scholars in Cario in 1801. How the Stone came to British hands is disputed. Colonel Tomkyns Hilgrove Turner, who escorted the stone to Britain, claimed later that he had personally seized it from de Menou and carried it away on a gun carriage. Clarke stated in his memoirs that a French scholar and an officer had quietly given up the stone to him and his companions in a Cairo back street. French scholars departed later with only imprints and plaster casts of the stone.

Turner brought the stone to Britain aboard the captured French frigate L'Egyptienne in February 1802. On March 11, it was presented to the Society of Antiquaries of London. Later it was taken to the British Museum, where it remains to this day. Inscriptions painted in white on the artifact state "Captured in Egypt by the British Army in 1801" on the left side and "Presented by King George III" on the right.
