There are two ways recommend second choice):
1. You just got to touch the 'go out' selection on the menu screen then touch 'shopping' selection. Next touch the 'pet supply' selection. and you will many items to buy for your dog (example. dog food can, water bottle.....).
2. Go take a walk with your pet and go to that shop with the pet supply icon. It is the discount shop. Over there you can find everything in the pet supply there for a minimum price and sometimes you can even find surprise items (I once found a skipping rope !)

First, after you buy your dog, play with it a little. It doesn't matter which toy you use, as long as it doesn't bother the dog (items like the Mario Kart). Make sure you have a name chosen for your dog. I find it helpful to choose a name while you play with it. Sooner or later, your screen will go white (for only about 2 seconds) and then your dog alone will appear. After that, follow the instructions and call the name of your puppy into the mic (microphone).

Many people say you can't, but you can! My friend did it, doesn't have an action replay, and acually had shown me! I'm currently trying to,too. Here are the steps:
Things you need to start with: 2 friendly dogs, rose, lucky collar, a naptime record (optional) milk ONLY, and dry food ONLY
1st- Pick a girl and boy dog of the same breed (any colors) and try to get ones with friendly personalities.
2nd- Have the girl wear a rose, the boy wear a lucky collar
3rd-Let them bond. Cuddling is a good sign, but whatever you do, DO NOT walk them or enter contests. For good measure,don't give them many toys and do not pet them ( it's harsh, I know, but try to ignore them! Leaving your DS plugged in alone while doing something else helps alot)
4th- when the girl starts to get noticable "big" your hard work is ready to pay off! Leave them be the rest of the time, checking in once every day or so.
5th- One day you will see a puppy! It should be just like the parents, but less than half the size.

3. feed them only milk and dry food.
