Why did Nirvana name their hit song Smells Like Teen Spirit?
Teen Spirit was a brand of deodorant that was very popular in the U.S. in the 1980s - 1990s. The brand might even still be around; I'm not sure.
Anyway, as the song is about teenage culture -- and culture in general -- in America, I suppose it seemed fitting to name the song after a brand of deodorant that most teenagers in America used at the time.
It's a play on words, basically. "Teen Spirit" as in, the zietgiest of 1990s American teenagers, as well as "Teen Spirit," as in, the deodorant.
