How do you make an okra coffee? It's easy! As a part of my investigatory project, I've attempted of discovering as such.

What do you need?

a. matured or dried okra seeds

b. roasting pan

c. osterizer or grinder

d. turner

Procedures:

1. Select matured or dried seeds and separate them from pods.

2. Prepare the roasting pan and the turner

3. Put the roasting pan on a flame, let it become hot.

4. Put the okra seeds and roast it over the pan using the turner.

5. Turn the seeds until it become roasted, and turn black.

6. Put the roasted okra seeds into a container and let it cool.

7. Grind the okra seeds.

8. Presto! you have now aromatic coffee substitute which can also be used as expectorant. Oks coffee for cough, what a brilliant idea.

Okra and okra seeds contain trace amounts of gossypol, a polyphenolic aldehyde with male contraceptive properties that is also found in higher concentrations in cottonseed. The amounts present in okra seeds are too low to have any noticeable effect even if you ate an enormous amount in one sitting. Concentrated gossypol tablets have been tested as a male contraceptive but generally found to be too dangerous. There isn't a big difference between the dosage of gossypol required for temporary contraception and dosages that cause permanant sterility, potassium deficiency, and paralysis- and it would be impossible to regulate this dosage if you're eating unprocessed seeds. In short, okra seeds are not an effective, safe or reliable method of contraception.

The longer one cooks it the thicker the 'slime' will get. This is one reason okra is often used to thicken soups. However, if you pan-fry sliced okra in butter or oil on medium, and constantly stir it, the thick slime will completely dry out. The okra will shrivel somewhat, but there will be NO slime. This is a long process, but well worth it. Don't be alarmed if the okra and/or seeds turns dark or even somewhat green-black. That's gooood eatin'! It will be a little crunchy and provide that breaded and fried okra taste without the deep fry.

This method does not work particularly well with frozen okra, which kind of turns to mush. Fresh is best.
