If Im having tourque converter lock up on my 1989 corica easest repair and why is this happening please help?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

Bad news then Really bad news followed by maybe better news.:

The Transmission must be removed from the car to replace the torque Converter.

If the converter has failed inside it has probably damage the entire transmission and it will also require repair.

The only bright spot is that all the controls to work this component are realitivly cheap and easy to fix, so what's wrong may not cost an arm and a leg.

Where is the turn signal relay on a 1995 Oldsmobile 88?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

Are you sure you don't mean fuse? The turn signal fuse is under the drivers side dash in the fuse box. The inside label of the panel will tell you which one.

If your turn signal is not working, also check the flasher. They are a type of relay too, and located in the shroud area next to the steering wheel. If you have an a/c car, you will need to drop the drivers side shroud cover to get to the flasher. Easy fix, just takes about 20 minutes to undo all the bolts. (9/32 or 7 mm) for the dash, 10mm for the nuts holding the kick panel.

Remove plastic engine cover by unscrewing the oil fill tube from the front of the engine, like your adding oil. Then lift the front of the cover and tip the back of the cover down off the barb that keeps the back of cover in place. Follow the top radiator hose back to the engine and it is about an inch under where the radiator hose hooks to the engine. It has 2 wires comming out of it. It looks like a 3/4" or 19mm wrench or socket hex head will remove it and it is an easy DIY project if your car is overheating and the fans are not turning on.

How would you take the pulley and clutch assembly off the air conditioner compressor of a 1995 olds eighty eight royale without removing the compressor?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

It has been a long time since I've done this, BUT I'm sure its the same today. And by the way the process is common to almost all vehicles, which makes this answer generic. An AC clutch/pulley assembly is very much different than other pulleys on the vehicle. Due to the thin walls of the clutch outer cup, you CANNOT use an ordinary gear/pulley puller or it will mangle the pulley, sometimes without removing it. A special puller, specifically designed for compressor clutches must be used. As I recall, the clutch center hole was threaded, and the puller bolt screwed into it, and would bottom out on the end of the compressor shaft. Continuing to screw the bolt into the clutch resulted in the clutch being pulled by its riding up, or outward, on the bolt. With the PROPER TOOLS, like most everything else, its not too bad a job. I'm not sure, but I think many of the national chain auto parts stores either loan or rent this tool. Depending on the space available in you engine compartment, you may have to remove, or at least displace some stuff to have room to work. One item, I seem to recall, was the radiator FAN SHROUD, and on some vehicles, where the upper radiator hose passed right in front of the AC compressor, that hose had to be disconnected at that end, and displaced out of the way. I think we used to tie it back out of the way with a piece of heavy twine! Hope this helps until a Buick AC technician improves it.

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

Answer

very...the engine and trans come out together through the bottom of the car with the sub-frame and control arms, then you separate the engine from trans and put back together, about 14 hours with the right tools and a lift

It was easy for me and my mechanic. We wanted to change the 3.8 series 2 engine with the LSS's supercharger 3.8 series 2 engine. A very excellent build.

Why would your brake warning light come on and no other brake warning lights are on emergency brake is off on your 1999 Oldsmobile eighty eight?

User Avatar

Asked by Luseee

It is possible that a wheel speed sensor is bad. This will cause the anti lock braking to not read the wheel correctly which would be a brake problem that would cause a light.

Location of engine computer in a 1995 Oldsmobile eighty eight?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

If you have an OBD1 system in that car (pretty sure you do, check the label under the hood), the computer is located inside the car, on the passenger side, under the dash.

It is behind the blower motor assembly, in a white plastic holder, with three electrical plugs visible on the bottom. The plugs are white, red, and blue.

You will need to remove the plastic trim piece under the dash to see the computer. I was able to remove mine without removing the blower or anything else. If you look close, you can see the white tabs (one on each side) that hold the computer in place. If you pull the computer towards you with one hand, and press the tabs back one at a time, the computer will then slide down out of the holder.

My wiring harness had enough slack in it that I was able to remove the computer out of the holder without unplugging it. I then unplugged it sitting on the floor of the passenger side where I could easily see how the plugs were held in place. (small plastic clip on the back side)

Hope that helps! Good luck!

92 Oldsmobile 88 block heater location?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

I have a 1992 Olds with the 3800 engine; the block heater is almost inaccessible. The engine is sideways and the block heater is in the frost plug location just over the frame at the back. Suggestion: unless it is leaking just take the frost plug out in the front of the engine and install the block heater there where it is accessible.

Where do you add power steering fluid to a 1997 Oldsmobile 88?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

The steering pump reservoir is towards the passenger side of the compartment, on the firewall side of the engine. It's not easy to get too, really. Viewing from the passenger side of the car, you'll not see it, because a wire bundle and terminal blocks your view of it. I just filled mine before answering this... I had to approach it from directly above the engine. I'm fortunate that I'm light weight enough to balance on the edges of the compartment. Even still, you'll need a long stemmed funnel to reach the reservoir.

Why does my 1994 Oldsmobile 88 stall when you stop or go to turn?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

Unfortunately could be few things so mention this to those idiot mechanics of yours.

1) It sounds like the FUEL PUMP is quiting for some reason. Now the pump could be wearing out because it is an older car but maybe not (so don't go out an by one!).

2)) : check the fuel gauge - if it drops, it could be the FUEL PUMP RELAY dropping out.

3) That fuel pump is also powered by an OIL PRESSURE SWITCH that as long as there is oil pressure in the engine keeps that pump running. Assuming the relay drops out and itis running gon the oil switch, coming to a stop sign could drop the oil pressure en ought that the oil switch opens, although it is supposed to oper ate on something like 3PSI. That's another scenario.

4) loosed the gas cap and leave it loose to see if the tank is forming a vacuum thus not allowing the fuel out - VACUUM LEAK

5) Check WIRES there is a connector on the fuel tanks and out of that connector comes a ground wire that bolts to the body somewhere. it is the bround for both eh pump and the fueled sender and must be clean and tight.

So it coould be a power or pump problem or loose connect.

How do you remove and install an ignition cylinder in a 1992 Delta Eighty-Eight Oldsmobile?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

They are same special tools what u can order them from the net or maybe u can find them at autoparts, i have the same problem , but i just wait like that for a while i use the screwdriver :) .....Good Luck ... Evidently, you have lost your keys lol. With keys removal very easy, without can be pain,Hopefully you have already purchased the new cylinder.Instructions should come with cylinder. You will need a steering wheel puller, roughly cost is about 12 bucks. You might also need a set of star drives. Set aside the day for removal, should take roughly 3 hours if all goes right, but extra time helps so not to get frustraded.Phillips and flat heads, adjustable wrench or correct size for steering wheel nut.Put parts in order as taking off, hence the first parts should be farthest away from you. If it has a release hole, use a straightened out paper clip this is the best case scenario without key. If it has locking pin and cylinder needs to be in run position to depress pin.Heres where the fun begins, everywhere you read will say drill the pin.Dont,go to the hardware store and purchase 2 dremel cone grindstones.Use these with a drill and grind the pin.Using a drill bit will just tear up the soft metal around it.Trust me on the 2 grindstones, you will need 2.By now cylinder should move just a tad.you can tell if pin is holding it up or not.Your not done yet, take a 3/8s drill bit and drill dead center of key hole.Make sure you have new cylinder in hand so that you know if drilling into anything but cylinder.Cylinder should fall apart in about 3 pieces.Remove those pieces, kind of match up with new to make sure all is out.Figure at least an hour on drilling center of cylinder.Wipe inside out to remove debri, light oil new cylinder with 3 in one.Slip in and start up.Put everything back together. Good luck, sounds hard but after you finish it you will realize not to bad.
