There are many, many ways the ending could be rewritten; in fact, the musical Oliver! puts an interesting twist on the facts. Characters who die in the book could be made to live and vice versa. Fagin could repent his sins (we see hints of that late in the book) and he and Nancy could team up to save Oliver. The various permutations are virtually endless.

He gave all he had and borrowed more on behalf of the United States, but congress was broke and couldn't pay him back. He was also appointed as the Commercial Agent to the Continental Congress from New Orleans. He was jailed in Havana Cuba for 18 months for debts owed by the US government. After the Revolution, he tried to get his money back, but congress was very slow and incomplete in paying him back.

My 1st impressions of Fagin is that Fagin is an old Jewish man and that he is kind to everyone he also makes Oliver and his pals laugh. He is violent because he nearly attack Oliver and he is also greedy. He is also a murderer he killed one of the people who were working for him because they had told about the jewelery that he had stolen.

Fagin is played by Alec Guinness in that 1951 interpretation.
