Opana is a sustained-release form of hydromorphone, which is a more powerful adjunct of morphine. Because Opana is in a time-release formulation, ostensibly you can't abuse it the way you can with other forms of hydromorphone, most notably dilaudid. It is VERY important that you understand hydromorphone is, again, MANY times stronger than morphine, which itself is many times stronger than street heroin.

Also, there is no other active ingredient other than the narcotic itself in Opana. This is unlike Percocet, which in addition to the narcotic Oxycodone, also contains acetaminohpen. It all depends. Everyone is different. I have heard people that have had success with both medications for pain. It is all up to the individual and their own preference. Methadone and Oxycodone are different types of opiate drugs. Methadone is a very long lasting opiate but will not have as intense of a euphoric effect, which helps many people who need to function while on a pain-killer. Oxycodone is a much shorter acting and intense opiate. You will feel a much more euphoric effect and "high" than from methadone, but you will need more of the medication (multiple doses in a day).

Oxycodone is not an antidepressant. It is a pain reliever. There is no antidepressant that works like a pain reliever. See your doctor and get what is best for you.

The only difference between the two are in the way they are bound. Oxycontin is nothing more than time released Oxycodone. Contin coming from the word "continuous" as in continuous release.
