This answer is wrong. I live in Canada and there are indeed palm trees growing year round on the west coast. Despite the misconception held by most Americans, we don't live in ice and snow all year. The pacific coast is quite mild all winter and if you go there to places like Vancouver and Victoria, you will see many large palmtrees in parks along the street, and in people's homes.
When the Winter Olympics were held in Vancouver in 2010 , they were high in the mountains where there was snow. But the media was careful not to show the actual city where the weather was quite nice, and where blossoms were out among green grass and palm trees.
