Other bird species such as the Passenger Pigeon have become extinct because of the same problem. Us being the most powerful need to stop this crisis and help preserve our wildlife. It's the only Earth we have, lets keep it. Also, even though extinction is a natural process, today humans are causing extinction at a far greater rate than has EVER occurred before.

This usually means your budgie is molting. But if it's too early or too late, it could be a French Molt. The best thing to do is to take your budgie to the vet. Feather-plucking is a sign of boredom. Check your budgie if it's feather-plucking. Then take it to the vet or give it new toys.

It's often really difficult to tell the sex of your parakeet or budgie. They are only sexually dimorphic on their cere. The cere is the fleshy part just above their beak. It is the area of skin around their nostrils. The remaining areas of a budgie body, whether male or female are too similar, often identical, to be able to tell the difference in gender.

Parakeet nest boxes need to be at least 6" x 7" x 7" with a 1.5" diameter hole, although some breeders prefer a wider nest box with the hole st off to one side so the female doesn't land on the eggs when she enters. In that case, I recommend a box around 6" x 7" x 10" (H x D x W).

We got a new bird for our other bird because she cut down on her chripping and indepentantness. she usually goes away from us, but she started coming to us. When the new bird got used to our other bird, it was like the dead bird never left. Chirrping 24/7!

Both can make excellent pets. It depends on what you are looking for in a bird. If you are really big on teaching one to talk then a male would be a better choice but there is no guarantee that it will. Females can talk as well but not as clearly as a male. Otherwise I have found both genders to be easily trained and tamed and great birds to have .

I know you can teach them to talk (some never talk), you can teach them to ring a little bell on one of their bird toys, and sometimes you can get them to whistle. You can also possibly teach a parakeet to fly on to your finger, as this trick is most likely tough to teach. There are probably other things you can teach them too. I suggest you research for more info. Remember to only teach them one trick at a time, more than one (being worked on for a while), can confuse your parakeet.
