im not sure how to tell you but get a parakeet hanbook or a guide instead of wating your time on here. guide books tell you everything you need to know.
yes but, make sure you cut it in little pieces or it will choke and die.
When will a parakeet start talking?
Prepare the training area. Before you can begin teaching your parakeet to talk, you need to establish a training area where you can interact with the animal one-on-one. The best training area will be a room that is quiet and dark. This allows both you and the parakeet to concentrate better. Anyway, after you have picked out your training room, you can begin preparing it by setting up a second cage. Just make sure that the cage remains empty of toys or other parakeets, since they will distract your bird during training. Only water is needed.
Develop a schedule for the parakeet's talking sessions. Teaching parakeets to talk is something that requires diligence, patience and most importantly time. If you want to ensure your training sessions are having any impact, you will need to talk with your parakeet at least 15 minutes a day. Of course, if you can do 30 minutes or more, you increase your chances of success.
Place a towel over the parakeet's cage. Before you begin your training session, you will want to drape a towel over the parakeet's cage. This allows the parakeet to become less distracted from outside stimuli.
Start the training process. After everything is in place, begin teaching your parakeet how to talk by slowly repeating a phrase. Place emphasis on words that begin with b, t, w, k or p, since these are the easiest for parakeets to imitate. Also, make sure you only repeat one phrase for each session. Do not move onto a new phrase until your parakeet has learned the first one. This might seem really annoying for you, but this is the best method for teaching your parakeet how to talk.
Reward your parakeet. After your parakeet has successfully imitated a phrase, give them a bird treat. This will help bring about a positive association with both 'talking' and its training session.
Give the parakeet something to talk to when they're in their main cage. You will want to try and encourage your parakeet to imitate talking sounds all the time, whether or not they are in their training session. That's why you need to provide either another parakeet or a mirror for them to communicate with. Of these options, obviously the parakeet is better, but if this is not possible you can use a mirror to 'imitate' the existence of a second parakeet.
Use a tape recorder for days you cannot do training. If you can't physically assist your parakeet in a talking session, use a tape recorder to play back phrases.
Why do budgie walk or stand on bottom of their cage?
She's probably about to lay an egg, or is attempting to nest.
How do you know if your parakeet is mad?
I believe that when a parakeet is mad their feathers pufup not sure sorry
What to do if your budgie is losing feathers?
This usually means your budgie is molting. But if it's too early or too late, it could be a French Molt. The best thing to do is to take your budgie to the vet. Feather-plucking is a sign of boredom. Check your budgie if it's feather-plucking. Then take it to the vet or give it new toys.
How do you tell if a parakeet is a girl?
It's often really difficult to tell the sex of your parakeet or budgie. They are only sexually dimorphic on their cere. The cere is the fleshy part just above their beak. It is the area of skin around their nostrils. The remaining areas of a budgie body, whether male or female are too similar, often identical, to be able to tell the difference in gender.
However, if your budgie is younger than twelve months, then it may be impossible to visually identify whether it's gender is male or a female. If that is the case, then you will have to take your budgie to an avian veterinarian to be surgically sexed.
To determine parakeet gender yourself, take a look at the cere. In normal variety males the cere will be blue or purplish. If your budgie is recessive pied, fallow, lacewing, lutino, or dark-eyed clear then the cere will be bright purple or ping.
All female budgie varieties develop a white, tan, or brown cere. The brown ceres tend to be flaky and thick.
Some experts also agree that there are some behavior differences between budgie sexes. While this isn't scientific evidence that they're either a male or a female it can help in the parakeet gender identification process. Behavior differences include:
Male Parakeets:
-Head bobbing
-More Singing
-More Active and Social
Female Parakeets:
-Bossy
-Louder
-Don't generally sing
I hope this was helpful :)
How big should a cage for 1 parakeet be?
Parakeet nest boxes need to be at least 6" x 7" x 7" with a 1.5" diameter hole, although some breeders prefer a wider nest box with the hole st off to one side so the female doesn't land on the eggs when she enters. In that case, I recommend a box around 6" x 7" x 10" (H x D x W).
What is tthe life cycle of a parakeet?
Eggs- Hatching- Nestling- Juvenile- Prenuptual Molt- Adulthood- Reproduction- Death
A bird might ruffle its feathers to remove something on the feathers, to put feathers back in place where they belong after preening or after being handled, etc. Ruffling is just a way of putting feathers back where they belong.
How do you tell a boy parakeet from a girl parakeet if they are the same color?
It is very difficult to determine the gender of a budgie when they are young. Wait a couple of months until they grow. Then if it turns into a brownish colour then it will be a girl, if it turns a bluish-purple colour than it will be a boy.
You had two parakeets and one of them just died What should you do with the other one?
Hi
Did your bird die? If it did, I know how you feel. My second bird died about 2 weeks ago.
We got a new bird for our other bird because she cut down on her chripping and indepentantness. she usually goes away from us, but she started coming to us. When the new bird got used to our other bird, it was like the dead bird never left. Chirrping 24/7!
well if that helped at all I'm glad. i hope your other bird is okay. :)

What is the difference between male and female bourkes parakeet?
Generally, a male Bourke's parakeet has a blue forehead and the female lacks the blue coloring. Males are also larger than females.
If a parakeet is green and yellow is it a girl or a boy?
No. In parakeets the color of the feathers is not how to tell the sex of a bird. The area where the birds nostrils are is how you tell the sex of a parakeet. If this area is a greenish or blueish it is a male. If this area is a light tan or pinkish it is a female.
What parakeet should you get male or female?
Both can make excellent pets. It depends on what you are looking for in a bird. If you are really big on teaching one to talk then a male would be a better choice but there is no guarantee that it will. Females can talk as well but not as clearly as a male. Otherwise I have found both genders to be easily trained and tamed and great birds to have .
Parakeets arent the kind of animals to pick up, you will have to train your 'keet to trust you. Try putting your index finger on her belly-gently, then try telling her to "step up"keep trying and be patient! And don't grab at her that is a parakeets worst nightmere!=Hope this helped!=
What can you teach your parakeet to do?
There are a few things you can teach them to do. I know you can teach them to talk (some never talk), you can teach them to ring a little bell on one of their bird toys, and sometimes you can get them to whistle. You can also possibly teach a parakeet to fly on to your finger, as this trick is most likely tough to teach. There are probably other things you can teach them too. I suggest you research for more info. Remember to only teach them one trick at a time, more than one (being worked on for a while), can confuse your parakeet.
What does it mean when parakeets go on top of each other?
Sounds like he is attempting to mate with it.
What happens if a parakeet gets lonely?
Yes. To keep your bird from dying, you need to add another bird. Feed them well. Water them. Give them a bath with a spray bottle. Let them sleep at a certain time.
Unless the bird raised is a hand fed pet. In this case, having two birds may harm your bonding with him, and they will prefer each other over you. If you have hand-fed pet bird, playing with him and spending time with him is a good way to prevent loneliness.
Can cockatiels and budgerigars live together in a cage?
Birds of one species, if kept in captivity, may sometimes develop mate-type relationships with birds of a different species. Some birds will mount other birds and some birds will mount or rub against their human caretakers or inanimate objects.
You don't have to worry about accidental hybrid babies. Cockatiels and budgerigars are not closely related enough for offspring to be produced. You might have to worry about what the budgie does to the cockatiel because budgies can be more pushy and aggressive, especially if the budgie perceives it as an attack.
But there is an egg and we only have one Cockatiel? What's up with that?
How do you tell if a parakeet has a injured wing?
You use a wing clipper and clip only the long feathers so it can still fly, but not get very far without stopping. Or better yet, don't risk harming your budgie and just be very careful with opening doors and such. I have a budgie and we don't clip her wings, she can fly well, and after a year of living with us, she knows where to go and where not go, just because we care for her well and give her lots of petting and loving time.
How much do toys cost for the parakeets?
parakeets are a wonderful pet great for a first time bird owner. The parakeet will only cost about $20, but a proper cage can run over 25-$100. Even though its a small bird it needs room to stretch its wings. This is an animal that is used to soaring in the sky for miles and miles, it needs more than just a few cubic feet to call home.
It will needs time out of the cage, a playstand, lots of toys, fresh seeds, fruit, veggies, eggs, pasta, and maybe even vitamins. It will also need to see the vet once a year for check ups and if it gets sick you could pay hundreds, if not thousands to get it better.
Dont think that because its a parakeet it doesnt need love and medical care. A parekeet deserves just as much love and care as a macaw. I once spent over $400 to save a cockatiels life, and have spent about $200 to help some budgies feel better.
All together to start up you are looking at at least $200 plus monthly food and a vet Just because the pet is cheap to get doent mean its cheap to PROPERLY care for.
Is your parakeet a boy or girl if the beak is yellow?
If a parakeet is young, it will have a bright pink or bright blue nose. If it is an old parakeet, it will have dark blue or brown. If a young parakeet has a bright blue nose, it is a girl. If it has a dark blue nose, it is old and it is a male.
If your parakeet laid an egg does it need a nesting box?
In the wild, most birds would find hollows in tree trunks that other animals made and nest in them. If you are trying to breed your parakeets, you will need a nesting box. Petsmart has them, make sure you get the right size, and don't get a dark colored one. That sometimes will make them ignore it.
