Parody and Satire

"IM On A Boat" is a parody of mainstream rap songs that typically focus on boasting about material wealth and extravagant lifestyles. The song exaggerates these themes in a humorous way by emphasizing the absurdity of such lyrics.

In chapter 24 there is an example saying, "Solomon had one; he had about a million wives." Also, there is another example in chapter 38 saying, "We got her half way; and then we was plumb played out, and most drownded with sweat."

The king and the Duke demonstrate cleverness by creating elaborate schemes to deceive people for personal gain or survival. For example, they exploit Huck's naivety by posing as British royalty to swindle unsuspecting townspeople. Additionally, they manipulate situations to avoid consequences for their actions, such as pretending to be long-lost relatives in a new town to escape a lynching.

Satire is considered controversial because it often uses humor, sarcasm, and exaggeration to criticize or provoke individuals, institutions, or society as a whole. This can lead to sensitive topics being approached in a way that some may find offensive or inappropriate. Additionally, satire can challenge established beliefs and norms, leading to different interpretations and reactions from audiences.

Silas Phelps was the uncle of Tom Sawyer, who Huck encountered when he impersonated Tom while trying to rescue Jim from slavery. Huck had only spent a few hours with the Phelps' when Tom Sawyer showed up and pretended to be his brother Sid. Tom and Huck then spent awhile with the Phelps' creating an elaborate, yet pointless plan to rescue Jim. Under Tom's guidance, they created a much more complicated plan to rescue Jim, when they really only needed to climb through a window to rescue him.

It's not actually a parody of a particular song - not many of their songs are actually specifically parodying a certain song, they just tend to parody a whole genre and make allusions to other bands and songs.

That was 'Jeopardy' by the Greg Kihn Band.

They get separated from each other in the heavy fog, but eventually find each other.

A steamboat crashes into their raft and Jim and Huck are separated again.

Huck has a run-in with the Grangerfords and the Shepherdsons, two families at war with each other.

He is reunited with Jim shortly after this.

Then, they meet the King and the Duke, and get into a good deal of trouble performing plays.

The King and the Duke pretend to be Peter Wilks' long lost brothers

from England and try to steal all of the money left behind in his will.

They escape before they are caught.

Huck finally gets rid of them, but is left to search for Jim, who gets sold by the King.

He ends up at Tom Sawyer's Aunt Sally's house, where Tom and Huck rescue Jim.

Through all of the adventures down the river, Huck learns a variety of life lessons and improves as a person.

He develops a conscience and truly feels for humanity.

The complexity of his character is enhanced by his ability to relate so easily with nature and the river.

Satiric drama is a form of drama that uses humor, irony, or exaggeration to critique or ridicule societal issues, institutions, or individuals. It often seeks to provoke thought, challenge norms, and bring about social or political change through comedy and wit. Famous examples include plays like "The Importance of Being Earnest" by Oscar Wilde and "Tartuffe" by Molière.

They both use humor to make a point.

The Godfrey Cambridge satire of 1970 is the film "The Watermelon Man". It is about a white man with bigoted tendencies who awakens one morning to find that he has turned into a black man. Very dated by today's standards, but a great Mario Van Peebles movie.

In "Huckleberry Finn," the encounter with the spider is symbolic of superstition and foreshadows bad luck. Jim's belief in the spider's power to protect them from harm reflects the superstitions prevalent in the society. This encounter sets the tone for the superstitious themes that run throughout the novel.

Moammar rhymes with Omar. Moammar is the first name of former Libyan leader Moammar Gadhafi, who was recently assassinated.

The Menippean satirists, named after the Greek writer Menippus, were a group of men known for writing satires. They composed satirical works that mocked societal norms, politics, and intellect while incorporating elements of both prose and verse. Some well-known Menippean satirists include Lucian of Samosata and Varro.

"Animal Farm" by George Orwell is an example of a satire. The book uses a farm setting to allegorically criticize the events leading up to the Russian Revolution of 1917 and the subsequent Stalinist regime. Through the portrayal of animals taking over a farm and the subsequent abuse of power, Orwell satirizes political corruption and totalitarian regimes.

An article that proposes to ban all unnecessary breathing in order to draw attention to the problem of air pollution

You might find one of Edna St Vincent Millay's sonnets fits the bill. I know one that has these lines in it: Am urged by your propinquity to find/your person fair... I can't recal the first line unfortunately, but you could call it a parody of a love-poem, as you could also Shakespeare's sonnet 130, which satirises the exaggereated love-poems of his time.
