There isn't one way to write a song, but here are some simple steps to go by when writing one as a beginner. First: Start with what you have. It may be a melody line or a good chorus verse. Take that and just get it on paper and work with it. Maybe play with an emotion on paper. Second: Get a basic melody layed out, intro or chorus. A Melody helps shape the song so preferrably if you want to start with anything on a song, a melody is the safe route. If you don't have an experience in writing music on paper in notes and rhythmns, use a recording device. You can ask a musician to help put it on paper for you later. Third: Add a hook. Like in an essay it is what hooks the listeners so they are interested in hearing your song or singing it. It is a combination between lyrics and music that gets them to song the song long after they have heard it. Your hook can be anything though. It can be the verse, or the harmony line. It can be the song introduction or usually the chorus even both. Fourth: Write out an outline, a format or layout to put your song together. It is like a puzzle Where you fit your First verse in and transition into your Chorus and into the Second Verse. It would allow the music to flow smoothly without stopping or making an awkward coincidences. A typical pop song formatt would be for example: Intro Verse 1 Chorus Verse 2 Chorus Bridge Instrumental Closing The chorus is the same melody/tune everytime and the lyrics used in the Chorus are either the same or somewhat similar. The verses are the part of the song that explains the story, or emotion kindof like a poem. Verses have 2-4 lines. Every other line Rhymns (it doesn't have to but the song is more put together if it does) Bands like Paramore don't Rhymn every other line in their lyrics, but it just fits together like a puzzle. When starting a song from my experience. I personally find it easier to write the melody, and instrument parts because for me it is more fustrating to write a tune after the lyrics because you don't know what will sound cool when you experiement and sometimes if you write sad lyrics specifically for a sad song but easily get distracted and instead write a melody that is more upiddy the lyrics may not fit the expression of the melody/music line. So I write the lyrics after I write the melody and the words come to me easier that way. That is for me personally though. Enjoy your music!!
