Islamic tradition has it that at least 2000 years BCE., the prophet Ibrahim, the first monotheist (Abraham, for Judaic and Christian groups) and his family, Haajar (wife) and Ishmael (son), traveled to this place. While there, Ibrahim left Haajar and Ishmael here, trusting God to care for them.
