You can stuff a pillow with all the hair that comes off a Rat. They shed throughout the year. I have two, one will a gorgeous, full coat and the other a piebald cow-marked. The full-coated one is responsible for every surface in my home being covered in dog hair. The piebald one is almost as bad, but her hairs are so short that they are not a problem. My wool coats, my sofas, my beds. Furniture that has to be dusted every other day to not show hair. I have a large dust mop that picks up enough hair to knit a sweater every couple of days. I have hair catchers in the drains, a Dyson vacuum that earns its keep, and a dryer lint screen that looks like I put the dog in the dryer every time I clean it. In short, yes, Rats shed mercilessly.

Well, I have a teddy roosevelt rat terrier. (Their legs are shorter then rat terriers) and they are so cute! Mine is 10 weeks old and only weighs 2.9 lbs now. Teddy Roosevelt rat terriers can weigh up to about 10 lbs. Basically it depends the type of rat terrier you have. Type A, Tybe B (or called teddy roosevelt) there are also toy type a's and and tiny tot type a's. Type b's are also called teddy roosevelts because they were breed for Teddy Roosevelt!! .Rats are clean, lively, personable, and make lovely pets. In our family, the longest lived was about four years old when she died. Usually they lived about 3.5. I think much depends on the quality of food, and yes, even attention. Ours would ride round on our shoulders, in pockets, and crawl over Gram. They even liked our dogs, and our dogs tolerated them.

we have some rat terrier dogs leave a big fenced yard for it they like to roam they will chase ayay all the intuders like deer squirrles bunnies cats etc they are a lot of fun ! also feed water let it out play bathe and love it ! bye !

I have a rat terrier and have had a cockerspaniel and an Australian shepherd amd i trained them all the same just take them out every 45 mins-hour and say "go potty" or something over and over and when they go just praise them really excitedly

Rat terriers are a very interactive breed. They are a working dog and need a job to do or will become depressed and agitated. This manifests in troublesome behavior for the pup's people, like chewing, digging, excessive barking, aggression and poor health. (Just like when people are couch potatoes and in poor health, they are usually not as pleasant to be around as fit, fulfilled people).

A rat terrier is a great dog for a companion if you are dedicated to doing any of the following things with him/her on a DAILY basis, for at least an hour: running, hiking, brisk walking with a retractable lead, playing, fetch, hide and seek, any problem solving dog appropriate puzzle games, agility and "tennis-ball-soccer".

They are skilled varmint hunters and will quickly wring the neck with a quick "shake and break" of any small, unsuspecting creature such as mole, vole, mouse, bird, rabbit or snake if given the chance. They must be socialized with cats to get along with them safely, and especially kittens must be supervised, because of their small size and vulnerability.

Like most terriers, they are quick witted and more on the hyper side, always ready for an adventure and can be aggressive to other dogs in their zeal to protect the homestead or their family. They are full of vigor and can be totally hilarious if you are an active person who can feel compassion for their motivations to always physically express themselves.
