So far the first robot goes to the Chinese because they have the best documentation (it was a huge water clock with several automatons that did things like display plaques and ring bells), although many artifacts are being unearthed and catalogued that make it a tight race between the Iraq region, Egypt, Greece and India. A short history is in the link below.

Cost of vex robotics starter kit?
It depends on which kit you want. The classroom starter kit is $699.99 and comes with all of the materials needed to create, program, and run a VEX robot.
The "Radio Control" starter bundle is $299.99, and comes with all of the materials needed to build and run the robot. However, it does not come with the programming software or hardware.
The "Autonomous Control" bundles range from $319.99 to $449.99 and contain everything except a signal spiltter, can be used to drive up to 6 devices including VEX motors and servos and the transmiter and receiver kit, which allows a driver to control the robot.
The "Dual Contol" bundle, which can run both autonomous and radio controlled, contains everything except a signal splitter and ranges from $419.99 to $549.99.
Would a spherical shape robot be a advantage why or why not?
Larger workenvelope than cartesian and cylinderical robot, design simple, good weight lifting capacity.
In what year does you robot take place?

How do robots affect our life?
In this scientific world, machines make humans lazy and weak. And many industries and our works are recently automated which makes us lazy. Our predecessors did everything physically and mentally, then some of them created machines to reduce our work. So indirectly they made us quite lazy. And now everything is automated by us so it makes our offspring lazy. Let us consider situation that suddenly all machines will fail to work then think our life. All of us know how to handle a mobile phone (machine) to send a message but a few members know how to construct this how many of us know how to send a message without a machine?
Then there is the other side of things. As human knowledge has increased, so too has our ability to create technology that is not only bigger, faster and more efficient, but that technology can tend to be more hazardous, so robotics and automation in general make life safer for us.
Life today is, in many ways, better than life as recently as 100 years ago. Life expectancy has increased, not just because of our medical advances, but also because of simple things such as the way we travel. Horses, for example, were dangerous. They are large, dumb animals, that are easily frightened, and people who worked around horses were often killed or injured by a frightened horse. Coal heated homes resulted in breathing problems and early death. Inadequate medical knowledge resulted in quackery and dangerous medical practices.
Today, robotics are used for just about everything, from medical procedures to working in nuclear facilities, making life better and safer for humans. There may be some argument about the effect of automation on the human culture, but if you will just ignore the critics, and examine the facts for yourself, you SHOULD be able to recognize that almost all forms of automation have been a benefit to humans. Today our athletes are faster and stronger than ever before, and we have that advantage to a large part, because of automation; computers that tell us what the statistics really mean.
It's hard to argue that automation makes us weak when athletes are breaking just about every record.

most can't but some can if either they have the program or if you insall it. nano bots are usally built with the program.

A little more intelligent perspective:Robotics is a computer discipline that automates manufacturing and performs some mundane or even dangerous tasks. Robotics has also been misrepresented in the film and comic industries, and unfortunately, many people romanticize what a robot really is.While there are some hobbyist robots that are basically built for entertainment, real robots of today are computer controlled devices that perform tasks for which they have been specifically programmed.
Nanobots are currently capable of only the most basic functions. Nothing currently in operation even remotely approaches the functionality necessary to build other robots other than to perhaps perform simple, repeated tasks for which they were programmed.
