What is the meaning of the word robot?
The word "robot" is a coinage by Josef Čapek. When asked by his brother Karel Čapek, a Czech author, what he should call the laborers his play, Josef suggested the word "roboti". The word comes from the Slavic word "robota" literally meaning work, labor ( or serf labor), and figuratively "drudgery" or "hard work".
